I think we have found our new local "dive", and I mean that in the best way! In short, Wente's is casual, informal, and... welcoming - with really top-notch comfort foods. Wente's is that place we've passed by hundreds of times but never made theeffort to visit. The service was great and the food was excellent. I had the Hand Breaded Chicken Sandwich with cole slaw (verytasty and nicely breaded) and my husband had the Monterey, which was something special (I likened it to a better version of aFrisco). The people here are amazing, the atmosphere here is incredible, and literally this place has saved my sanity so many times over... the last year. I don't know what I wouldn't do without Marla and Ben and Rochelle Keaton and Shelly and Lexi and all of myfavorite people down here. I have been coming down here for way more years than the new owners have been in business, and theyhave done nothing but wonderful things to keep the Wente's name thriving and alive. I had been coming here for 2-3 years and for all that time this would have been and EASY 5 Star review as it was a hidden gem,... existing inconspicuously outside of the glitzy "The Valley" spotlight. Simple, unassuming, good food and decent people of allwalks of life. Many a deep, honest conversation about any range of topics could be had here. And, I certainly appreciate themfor staying open during shutdown and preserving a sense of normality against the rest of the world's insanity. Unfortunately,it appears with new ownership that this establishment has "The Valley" splashing all over it. Over the past 6-12months, thestaff has turned over and a lot of the old favorites are gone. I barely recognize the crowd, too as it seems to have beenreplaced with one that is plastic and shallow, consumed by greed Worst of all, I literally can no longer afford to eat/drinkhere. Perhaps that's "by design" and a feature not a bug as it helps to get the "right" crowd into a place. It's hard not torealize I'm part of the crowd they no longer want there. So be it... I can't say I'll never go back...if a friend invited methere, I'd meet them for a meal. But, this has become a "very occasional" place out of necessity. So, I guess 2 stars (with alittle positive weight for past enjoyment) *seems* about right. What a damn shame! Read more
The service was excellent, the food was hot. Kristen was on top of everything we needed even when she had multiple tables to... attend to three of which were six tops or more. Love the food the staff is great my favorite is lexi she has a great attitude towards me and makes me feel like I should ... stay longer. The bartenders iv had make my drinks are very good at there job. .but the real reason I keep coming in is lexi..... best waitress around she is a asset to your customers I will keep coming the three days I do because of her! I had been here several years ago and had forgotten about this place. Decided to go because Ed Callison and Darren Hank were... playing there. Food was delicious, but couldn't stay and listen to them play because of the smoke. Obviously they allowsmoking in their tent. The smoke just hung in the air near us. Won't go back to listen to music. Read more
