So I don't know if this is top notch baking or not. It's good. But you line up out the door and have to wait. We waited for... over half an hour to even get in the door. But...La Boulangerie Aucoin is legend. So it's all part of the experience. A greatselection of delicious baked goods. You gotta stop here if you're doing the John Cabot Trail. ???????????????? The best white bread, not kidding. I?m not from Cape Breton but as a child I would visit my grandparents farm where they always... had the Aucoin white triple loaf from the COOP. It makes the best sandwiches, the best French toast, the best everything, but mygrandparents used make my absolute favourite; load a thick slice with butter and fry in a pan until the butter is golden brown.Simple but amazing. Every time I?m on the island I make sure to stop somewhere to stock up on bread. Wish they had a Halifaxretailer! Read more

We waited for them to open one morning, not knowing that they only open at 9am. It was well worth the wait. Everything we bought... was delicious, so you really can?t go wrong with whatever you want to buy. We tried the Apple fritter, Apple turnover, chocolatecroissant, the cranberry cake and a mix selection of desert bars. All was delicious and I have to say really cheap too. We arefrom Montreal and prices here for the same kind of pastries is easily double or even triple the price. In any case, the storeis small and there will most likely be a wait. There?s extra parking across the street. Some stuff will sell put if you go laterin the day. Highly recommended if you are in Cape Breton and will be worth the detour. Read more

It's amazing what you find in small, out the way shops. This bakery has a great reputation, well deserved. We stood in line... for 10 minutes to enter the shop with people coming and going steadily at lunch. We loved the oat cakes, best in Nova Scotia sofar. My cinnamon bun was superb and the bread was delicious. Hard work pays off for their customers. Read more
