Reviews for Estrella Negra in Chicago, IL
Really nice place where you might not expect it. We had the empanada sampler, the tamale sampler and the goats cheese quesadilla... for food and we had the Paloma, the mezcal mule, the pepino Loko, the lengua de Diablo and the el alacran for drinks. Both thefood and the cocktails were tasty, well delivered, tasted fresh and tasted authentic as well. They have us a free shot of a newcocktail they were trying out, which was also really great. We didn't actually feel like they needed to improve but they seem tobe keen to keep on top of things. The owner told us the recipes were handed down from his grandparents. The people that own therestaurant are really lovely and very helpful. We're really happy the place we wanted to go to was closed cause this was nodoubt better. My partner also felt like it reminded him of when he went to Mexico. I never went to Mexico myself, but I can seehow this would feel "real". Really lovely. Read more
Surprised us with how amazing everything tasted. Prices initially felt a lil high, but everything was worth it. Highly... recommend. Read more
Let me start by saying that this review should’ve been written years ago when I first became a customer. Estrella Negra has... never once served me a bad meal or given anything less than stellar service. This is the one restaurant I hoped would surviveCOVID, and they did! I love seeing the changing art on the walls and the new seasonal items they add to the menu. Just dined inwith my husband this week and ordered the eloté tamales, mango salsa enchiladas, and the poblano surf n turf burger. Probablythe best meal we’ve had yet! Our server Bryan was awesome! He gave great cocktail recommendations and was so attentive.Another excellent dining experience. Read more
The food here is really, really good. The chicken pozole and steak tacos were delicious. My only gripe is that they should load... up the tacos with more meat/cilantro/onions. At several other Mexican spots, I would get the same amount these guys put on threetacos total on one taco. Otherwise, no complaints. Read more
Love this place! Can’t believe we waited so long to try it. My husband and I went on a Wednesday and tried out their wing... special. They sprinkle goat cheese on theirs which was YUM. One of my favorite wings in the city, now! Also tried the verdesalsa, guac, been dip, and flautas. Flautas came with a side of pazole! Everything was killer. Read more
Absolutely one of my favorite spots in the city! The food never disappoints, and they're getting better every time we go! They... recently took over the back patio space formerly used by Quenchers on Western and Fullerton, so even more seating is available. We caught them during a great event to promote the space, had some amazing food, and listened to some live jazz on a nice Summerafternoon. This is one of those places that your friends always recommend, for good reason! Read more
Very tasty food. I love how the entrees can come with mini pozole. The drinks were good. A cute tiny place. The highlight is... pozole!! Read more
