I will say I'm glad I tried this restaurant. Service was great. The biscuits were nice and fluffy. Chicken was fried to a crisp... perfectly and still juicy. As a disclaimer they do not let u substitute chicken, so you can not get all white or dark meat. Theonly issue I had was the brisket in my brisket Mac and cheese was chewy. All, I could think of was soooo no one tried thebrisket prior to putting it in the food. The mac was good otherwise. They were willing to exchange it out. So, that was nice ofthem. In case you are planning to go and eat in , you order and pay on your phone. They will bring u your food to the table. Itwould've been nice if they offered pieces of chicken as sides. Read more

10/10 it was great! My 13 year old son said that it was good enough to have as a last meal, and he’s a tough critic with a... sophisticated palate so that says a lot. He had the French Toast, which had a Whiskey caramel sauce, and Chicken and Waffle.Husband had the Chicken and Waffle as well, then we had fried green tomato and Mac and cheese for the table. Hands down the bestfried green tomatoes that I’ve had. The French toast was amazing, like AMAZING, it’s probably a fall/winter special butI’d eat it year round. It reminded me of the caramel apple spice drink at Starbucks. The chicken with the waffles was so good.Crispy without being oily, seasoned well but not overly salty. The staff was amazing despite the fact that there’s limitedinteraction with them since everything is ordered from your phone. They are welcoming, friendly, patient, articulate andprofessional. I recommend this establishment for quality food, exceptional flavor, and an overall great experience. Read more

Luella’s knocks it out of the park. Best fried chicken and waffles I’ve had (A+) - recommend getting the Nashville Hot. Took... about 30 min to get my meal, but it was worth the wait. Luella’s service was attentive and kind. Would absolutely come back! Read more

I’ve been coming here for YEARS and they have never disappointed. Last time I visited was in 2019, moved back to the city this... year 2022 and made Luella my first outting! I may have had a different experience than others because I arrived during the earlymorning hour (11:30am), there was no line, no excessive wait time for food, and everyone was pleasant. You do have to order onan app but that just means that their tip gets smaller. I refuse to order multiple times and be forced to pay a fee and tip eachtime ???????????. All in all, the food is great, the portion sizes are decent (I almost always have left overs), and the staffis pleasant. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to try southern food! Food was super delicious. The restaurant has a real southern feel. There were nice size portions...I had another meal from... leftovers. Can't wait to go back and try their Shrimp & Grits and Chicken Gumbo. Read more

Being from Mississippi, but living up north for 18 years it is hard to give credit to soul food places as I have not had any... REAL soul food up north other than from my own kitchen. BUT I have come to say this place has the best soul food I’ve had upnorth. The greens were delicious. I’ve read reviews that they need more seasoning. It’s a restaurant can’t pleaseeveryone’s taste buds just like my kitchen at home. Some will say it needs more seasoning and some will say it’s too salty. These were good greens. The cornbread was great. The chicken was everything. All the gumbo needed was shrimp and crab to make myday. It was good with just chicken and sausage though. Glad we stopped in for dinner. We would definitely go back when inChicago. The QR code was a first for me but if you placed the ordered and it’s messed up it’s on you. No exchange of money. All done through the QR code. I think it’s brilliant. #supportblackownedbusinesses Read more

It started off okay as we were able to get seated right away. We arrived at the end of the brunch, around 2pm. The restaurant is... intimate but not claustrophobic. It is a different feel as you order from the QR code on the table and the food is brought toyou as it is prepared. There was a layer of confusion when my husband ordered. I ordered the appetizer (fried green tomatoes, nopic) and O thought he ordered out food. He only ordered 1 shrimp & grits, not 2. The waitress saw his discontent and myconfusion/sympathy. I requested a container so that we could leave. As I was putting my food in the container, the waitresscomes over with a piping hot plate of Shrimp & grits…on the house! She expressed that she felt bad for the miscommunication. Igreatly appreciated that. The cook time is lengthy. Also, if you order your appetizer first, it shouldn’t appear with yourmain entree. The fried green were good but with add more sauce on the plate or provide some as a dipping sauce. The breadingneeds a touch more flavor. The Shrimp & Grits…the tails are still on the shrimp. That’s disappointing. I will follow therecommendations of ordering first but you run the risk of having nowhere to sit if you plan to dine in. You have to put yourtable number in the order when dining in. Although a lackluster 1st impression, I do plan to return for dinner in thefuture!
