This wonderful gem has been our favorite restaurant for well over 10 years and it never, ever gets old. We must have easily... brought over 75 or 100 people there over the years, and they never disappoint. The food is creative, yummy, and servedbeautifully. One of my favorite hidden restaurants. The outside view is not very inviting especially when the parking lot looks a bit empty. ... Good thing they have a neon open sign. But don't let the empty lot fool you. It's very nice inside. We usually find 3-4 couplesdinning and occasionally large groups. I like dinning inside with my hubby. It's dark, Candle light, and comfortable. But whenwe have the kids we like the outside patio. It would be nice if they added a kids menu. Staff is very friendly. Drinks aredelicious. Food is excellent. And you don't have to worry about finding parking. Lol Read more
I can't even identify one bit with the negative reviews! We have been going to May Street Cafe for years and are greeted like... family each time. The food is delicious, the Margaritas wonderful, and the Patio is incredibly relaxing for a summer drink orfull meal. Mario and Guadalupe catered a birthday dinner in our home and it was a grand success! Try this gem on the south endof Pilsen! Read more
A friend took me there for the first time about a week and a half ago. The location is kind of strange, you would easily pass... the place, but the signage is great. A small place but the ambiance is kind of romantic. The margarita's were great and thefood was absolutely amazing. Though there was only one waitress, she was great, very attentive to everyone and very pleasant. The service, food and drinks were amazing. I loved the place so much that I cancelled my birthday reservations the followingweek at one of my favorite River North restaurants and brought my group of 12 ladies there instead. I had reservations at 7,called to say we would arrive at 7:20, which we did. We ordered drinks, guacamole and plenty of food. We ordered a second andthird round of drinks in hopes of soon receiving our entrees. After an hour one person received a salad and another a bowl ofsoup. At 9:15 I asked if they thought we would receive our entrees within 10 minutes because we had paid for reservations atanother venue at 10:00. I was told that we would. By 9:30 we asked again and was told they needed another 20-30 minutes. Thatof course did not make me happy as we were 2 hours in and still could not get our meals for another 30 minutes. I was verydisappointed as I was eager for my friends, who are very picky eaters, who turned their noses up at the location, and was notimpressed with the reviews, to try this place. They stepped outside of their box to try a place which I had given a greatreview, to be highly disappointed with the slowness of the service, as was I. Though I was very disappointed that may st. cafe'spoiled my birthday dinner with friends, I will definitely return on a day when I have 3-4 hours to sit in a restaurant becausethe food is great. Slow service, with average food. The chicken con mole was good, but it felt like I was just given a large slab of meat. I would... have preferred some more finesse to the presentation. It was the slow service that put me off. There were only 2 people workingthe floor, one of whom was mostly bartending. The food actually came out pretty quickly, but we waited a very long time for thecheck. Having one person take all of the orders was not efficient. Read more
