I have been to you business numerous times and been to the piano bar and have always enjoyed the experience. However, tonight I... placed an order of $100.00 to be delivered by Caviar, only to be told they were out of sticky rice after Caviar had charged. The female manager said they cancelled my order due to being out of rice. How does a popular restaurant run out of rice at 6 pmon a Saturday night??? Sat right in front of the door so I don't think we really got the feel of the restaurant. The appetizer and meal was good. The... green tea cheesecake didn't really have much flavor and poor presentation. Several of the dishes were chipped/broken and stillbeing used to serve on. There is a lot to like about Vanh Dy's but also some things that need work. First off, the restaurant is beautifully done and... clearly well taken care of. The layout, the decoration, the atmosphere are great. The upstairs speakeasy is great and its a nicebit of theater that they have to punch in a code for you to go up. I think they could really have some fun by having a server orhost look through the window in the door and ask for your reservation to be let in. It'd add to the ambience. Second and far anaway the biggest negative was the entertainment. I was incredibly disappointed by it and I want to be abundantly clear here -there was nothing wrong with the singer at all. They were perfectly talented standard Nashville singers doing the same type ofmusic I hear at every live music venue in the area and that was the problem. Here is this beautifully crafted environment goingfor the speakeasy vibe with a grand piano and instead of jazz or standards it is people in tee shirts and jeans singing countrymusic covers. Another note on the music- and please every place that has live music write this down - when friends get togetherat a place they want to socialize and spend time with each other. They do not want to be able to not hear themselves thinkbecause of how loud the music is. If your customers can not comfortably carry on a conversation with each other your music istoo loud. Turn It down. While we were there two tables left due to how loud the music was. Finally the food. I leave the foodfor last because if we're honest it is the least important part of dining out. Most places are fine but not spectacular and weare there for atmosphere and to spend time with friends. Likewise the food at Vanh Dy's was fine. Overall awesome place with a couple dings. Pros: - The food was excellent and the host/waitress were both great and very... friendly. - I got the panang curry and my wife the seafood pho. Both tasted excellent. - Prices are reasonable. -Niceatmosphere. Dings: -I ordered a beer that I never got. First, our waitress forgot it, then when I brought it up, she enteredit and then they figured out they were out of that beer. We were halfway done with food when they told me, so I just didn't geta beer. Saved me $5 I guess. -Portions could be larger for sure. Overall: Aside from them taking a literal hour to figure outthey were out of a specific beer, everything was very good and we would go back. I've been going here for 2 years, since moving home from another state where my family loved local Vietnamese. It's not as... traditional and more spendy, but we love that we can get Pho and Banh MI in Columbia, I often take friends upstairs for drinksand we love the speakeasy vibe, a nice addition to Columbia. I will ask, plz get better to-go containers. I'm not sure if theyare just out. My family gets to-go occasionally, it's easier for us to enjoy on our schedules. I ordered a $96.00 to-go orderwith 2 pho, which is two broths. The broths were given to me in plastic bags, that I put in a small box, inside a shopping bag.When I got home one had popped its lid, spilled, and leaked through the bag. It's an insulated drink cup, but the lids don'tstay on. These aren't the containers they usually use and i was not driving crazy. I let my fam eat and saved my Pho fixings, Iwas too tired and it was too late to go back downtown. I came back tonight 2 nights later on the off chance that they woukdgive me a cup of broth so I could have my pho. Yeah i know- but I've been working and not near downtown till tonight. I stoppedin tonight and told the hosts what happened and well, the usually gracious guy must've had enough tonight. They offered to sellme more or come back another time and buy more.
