We loved touring and staying at Houmas House Plantation! The accommodations were stunning, clean, and reasonably priced. The... gardens alone are worth every penny!! We stayed nearly a week and enjoyed every minute. The food at The Carriage House waswonderful. Our tour of the big house, led by Ruby, was very interesting. She was friendly and full of information. The hotel has a very period atmosphere. The house is a little smaller, but the facilities are very good. The price is a little... expensive, but the beauty of the entire manor makes you feel that it is worth the money. At night, the swans are as beautiful asparadise under the lake and lights, and the manor is in the lake. The reflection of the place is refreshing, and the harmony ofthe peacock and the rooster, this is a place worth coming again, just a pity that dinner needs a reservation, so don't know ifthe meal is delicious Read more
I did a little research as a weekend get away for myself and the wife to spend some time away. For $25 each we were able to... spend as much time on the gardens as we wanted and the tickets included going to the Great River Road Museum. There is noveterans discount but the ticket prices were reasonable. Best to get there early to get a good spot for parking. Bring water andsnacks especially during the summer months. Yes make sure to wear comfortable shoes. The grounds are awesome to walk and most ofthe buildings are still intact with the Turtle Bar located in one of what looks like a gatehouse. With three restaurants locatedon the property you do have choice of what to eat. We ate at Latils Landing which was located in the same building that theRiver Road Museum is located. The food was priced well unlike some other places that depend on tourists. The food was tasty andfilling. I would definitely be coming back when it is a little cooler to enjoy the vast expanse of gardens on the property. Read more
This was my first visit to a plantation house and it was very nice. Our guide was a man and I wish I could remember his name. He... lad long gray hair and he gave an excellent tour and you could tell he enjoyed giving it. The house was very nice with lots ofhistory. There is much to see in the house. You even get to see one of the dining rooms for Latils Landing restaurant which isan excellent restaurant. The grounds are perfectly manicured and it is very peaceful to wander around and see. my wife and I stayed in the caretakers cottage on 3/30-3/31/2022, I was told the cottage was not used often. It was a delight to... stay there. Very comfortable king bed, spacious interior, fantastic bathroom. Everything very clean, plenty of towels, greatKeurig coffee maker with assorted pod selections. Golf cart service on really a few moments notice to anywhere on the property.Literally every member of the staff; gift shop, golf cart service, tour guide, waiters, restaurant hosts, breakfast attendants,museum guide, landscaping and lawn service personnel, even the owner when I believe he answered the phone at 630 in the morningwhen I had a question about the check out time, every single one of them was engaging, polite, and answered any questions I had.Can you tell that the employees here like working for the owner? I did. Do you get a house tour where you see the ownerspersonal bedroom and office? I did. The owner has delivered an experience extremely hard to get anywhere else. I have stayed at4 star hotels for a solid week each in Paris, Rome, Florence, and Venice, none of them have achieved what the owner of HoumasHouse has. His vision, taste, elegance-uniqueness, and achieving a beautiful atmosphere where his guests can feel at home withan engaging experience, is a testament to a true architect of exceeding one?s expectations by far. The property is beautiful. You could take 2-3 hrs just enjoying the gardens. The house furnishings are amazing and a must see.... The tour guide did a great job telling the history and answering our questions. The oak trees are massive and the grounds arecovered with these beauties. Walk up to the river to get a good view of what they would have seen before the levee was built. Ihighly recommend Houmas House and Gardens. Read more
Excellent tour! We loved Mrs. Ruby, our tour guide! She was very informative and patient with us and all of our questions. The... cost for two adults is $70 plus tax but that cost includes a self-guided tour of the gardens which are very beautiful! There'sa restaurant and bar here. The bar makes great Bloody Mary's! While walking around the gardens, be sure to visit the bird. Hetalks and he loves attention! Houmas House is where the movie Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte was filmed and you can see the roomBette Davis stayed in. If you can, watch the movie before visiting. We arrived early and they let us go ahead and do the tour before our scheduled one. Patrick our tour guide was amazing! He took... his time and gave everybody the chance to take pictures if they wanted to. He was very knowledgeable and didn?t rush us throughthe tour. The gardens are very beautiful and picturesque!
