Good food, friendly staff and great views. Stopped for breakfast while traveling. Food was very good. Breakfast potatoes were... really good! I recommend ordering a side of sour cream for your potatoes. Bakery case items looked delicious. And they havea coffee bar with lattes and fancy coffee. Read more

Cruzing Hwy 1 in our MGB Roadster today and decided to stop for something from the bakery counter. Their in-house creations are... great. We got one of their enormous bear claws! Wow. My wife could only eat half. Coffee was great and they had a large choiceof teas! Nice tables to watch the ocean. Their restaurant section looked nice. We'll have to try it next time. Read more

Definitely one of my favorite crab cakes benedict place because I can taste the real crab used in the cake. I love my eggs... perfectly runny. The clam chowder was great for a cold chilly weather and they give you a lot for a bowl. We also got a kidsmeal which we were surprised of how big they give you. Read more

Food was ok. Thought the Bowl was just $13.25 like it said on menu, didn't know they'd charge $8 more for salmon. Wish this were... clearer. Read more

Even though I only stopped in for morning coffee on my way to a nearby hike, I thought I?d add my thoughts about Whale City... Bakery by posting a mini-review. After more than 30 years, this little cafe/restaurant/bakery in the tiny town of Davenport(pop. 400) has become a magnet for locals as well as tourists driving along Highway 1. In fact, while waiting for a fresh pot ofcoffee to be brewed, I talked to a family of five from Denmark who were headed from San Francisco to Monterey. They said thattheir guidebook recommended this spot for ?a good big American breakfast?. There was also a very chatty local couple of regularswho were picking up some breakfast burritos to eat on the beach across the street. Not a bad idea. There?s plenty of indoorseating, a small sunny dining area in front, and some tables in the shade in the back. You can see the ocean in the distance. The regulars said it?s a terrific spot to watch the sunset. The menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner are huge and I?m toldthat the portions are too. Prices seem reasonable. Maybe next time, I?ll grab one of their house-made pastries to go with mycoffee (which was excellent, by the way). Read more

The bright yellow storefront was an eyecatcher if you are driving along the PCH. I had dropped by with a +1 for a quick... breakfast. There was plenty of parking upfront that Tuesday morning, but there was also a parking lot on the south side of theestablishment. If you are travelling and need to find signal, I recommend taking a break here to use their availablewifi. Inside, staff were following Covid practices and the server that accommodated us was wearing a mask. I would also saythat the tables were decently spaced out as well. Since the place was almost empty, the noise level was at the minimum. I wasnot there too long and ordered some flapjacks and a medium latte. My +1 ordered a breakfast burrito with no meat. Reasonableportions at reasonable price. Read more

2nd time here in 4 years. Always a great selection of food (breakfast to lunch). Fried artichoke is a must. SERVICE was... excellent too!! And look across the way for the whales spouting - yes you can eat and watch mists from the whale spouts. Indoorand outdoor seating. We had the Fish and Chips, Chirozo Scramble, Crab Cakes Benedict, Chicken Pesto Sandwich, and FriedArtichoke Appetizer. All the pictures are more than half way eaten - good portions. Kid friendly too. We got pastries for thenext morning. They look amazing. Read more

A required stop on scenic Highway 1 in Davenport just a few miles outside Santa Cruz. Amazing bakery and restaurant serving... breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Avoid the weekend crowds and tour buses. Take away, outdoor seating, and now indoor too. Enjoy afresh baked pastry or hearty meal amongst the ocean breezes. Large portions and reasonable prices. Limited free parking. Read more
