Reservation for 3 on a Thursday evening. PROMPTLY seated. Our waitress (and I really wish I could remember her name) was... amazing. Great service, fantastic attitude... loved her! The wine was wonderful, the crab stuff lobster was fantastic. We eachhad different sides and all were great - roasted red potatoes, sweet potato mash (?), and the green beans with red peppers.Haven't been to Jays in a REALLY long time but won't hesitate to go back again. This is my favorite seafood restaurant in Dayton. A cut above in every way - the quality of taste, presentation and service are... worthy of the prices. Everything I've had here has been delicious (I love the cedar planked salmon and spicy bourbon salmon, aswell as their fisherman's platter). Their sides have always been solid and also very filling (so save room for dessert or orderit to go). Reservations for larger parties (more than 4) is highly recommended, but I suggest 1-3 people try going straight tothe bar (it's still cozy enough to feel intimate and food still cames out reasonably fast). It was verrry close to capacity andstill everything went well. Although they serve all kinds of drinks, you may need to clarify exactly how you like certain drinksmade if they're not very common outside of cocktail bars. Read more

It had been over 41 years since I had been to JC food restaurant took my daughter there last week because when she was two she... was in a high chair sitting in Jay's Seafood Restaurant the atmosphere is wonderful my server with the eye patch was excellentwe had some wine which was very wonderful we had the cocktail shrimp which we split it was very good I also ordered the OysterRockefeller which I was very disappointed about it was lukewarm not even all the way cooked we then both ordered the filetmignon butterflied hers was done perfectly cooked I asked for medium no blood I got blood had to send it back she had mashedpotatoes with her filet mignon they were ice cold had to send it back to have both of these items warmed back up the Caesarsalad was good it was sad since I spent over $200 on dinner plus a tip I put out there for the nice lady with the eye patch Ithink you guys need to find a new cook with culinary experience it'll be a while before I'm back perhaps you'll take my advicethank you Read more

So we are from a coastal state and enjoy fresh seafood. We weren't sure what to expect, especially with the prices. We ordered... the Walleye and Mediterranean Swordfish, both were very delicious. However my son ordered the swordfish....it came with bacon(he can't eat bacon) and it was NOT listed on the menu. We did point this out to the owner as a problem, especially for peoplewho can't eat it for religious & dietary reasons. The owner was very gracious and told us she would have the menu reprinted, anddid provide us a discount. We were impressed with the atmosphere and customer service. We will definitely be back to trysomething new. Read more

I ordered carry out and this was the worst seafood I?ve ever had. The food was bland and tasteless. The pasta was dry and the... shrimp was unseasoned. Every time I?ve ever ordered calamari they come in round ringed pieces or small pieces. These were thebiggest unseasoned strips I?ve ever had and because it was served with marinara, it resembles more of a mozzarella stick. Walking into Jay's I was pleasantly surprised with a nostalgic atmosphere like the old saloon it was in the 1800's. The decor... is brick with wooden timbers. The menu had some classics such as Maryland crab cakes and Lobster. The atmosphere is 5 stars. The selection is good. The service was fast and speedy and also 5 stars. The portion was huge and also 5 stats. The oneconcern I had was the Maryland style crab cakes were not like any crab cakes I got in Maryland nor would I make. They wereloaded with filler and shredded crab. As long as this is what you expect, your good. If you anticipate Maryland lump grabcakes, you are out of luck.
