We made the drive from STL to experience the fine dining of Lasse Sorensen from Food Is Love. The restaurant itself looked old -... outside and inside. After we were seated a server came to our table offering us the Tasting Menu, which was a 7-course menu. We were also told if we weren't interested in the Tasting Menu, they had specials. The menu nor the specials came with a price. We were told the specials and chose the safest, filet mignon. We stuck with water as our beverage. The entire meal was a 6 ozserving of filet with an asparagus spear, a slice of carrot, zucchini and squash the same size as the asparagus spear. The mealwas average, at best, had very little flavor. You can imagine our shock when the check came showing the each meal was$52!!! The service was fine, but you expect great service at a "fine dining" establishment. Had to ask for water refills. Ourfirst and last experience there. Read more

Three of us made a 2 hour drive to visit Tom's Place and taste the creations of Chef Lasse Sorensen whose Food Is Love... explorations we follow on PBS. It was well worth the drive! We chose Chef Lasse's 7 course tasting menu which was a culinarydelight! We also opted to add his wine pairings which enhanced the whole experience. See my photos for the menu, but Chef saidit changes every week based on the fresh foods available. Each course was unique and uniquely delicious. It was a foodie'sparadise! The courses were perfectly sized to be satisfying, but not leave you feeling stuffed by the end. The ingredients wereall fresh and the flavor combinations alluring, but not overpowering. We savored every bite. I received extra whipped cream anda candle with the apple tart dessert because it was my birthday. Our server, Colton, was top notch. He was training Jessie. Theycatered to our every need and desire. Chef Lasse himself also visited with us. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want toenjoy a special meal with special people. Reservations recommended. Love the location. Great history. Middle of nowhere. Prices aren't listed on the menu. It was 70$ for a salmon an iceberg salad... and 2 waters. During the week. Ill support because I want to keep them in business. But if you are on a budget... Think twice. Read more

Well we came here for pasta night, They treat you second rate if you are here for pasta night, Which is to bad I tip 20% for... great service regardless of what i ordered, I say if you come to support a place in Southern Illinois they should take care ofyou. Way understaffed was the answer for poor service on a resonalable priced pasta night wrong answer!!! All customers shouldbe treated equally 100$$ steak or Wednesday night pasta. Your asked at the hostess station what your here for WHY??? I'm apaying customer no matter what I order, I say let the place fold for bad customer service it's good food but poor customerservice Read more
