When visiting Des Moines, this by far was arguably the best restaurant we ate at! I would highly recommend! Service was good and... the food was great! Good flavor and portions. We ordered the Chicken Quesadilla, one normal and one with “light” (less)cheese. I think the one with light cheese was a much better choice. Especially if you’re not a huge connoisseur of cheese. Wealso ordered the Chicken Tortilla soup and the Jalapeño Chicken sandwich. All of it was extremely flavorful and well prepared.The Malo Fries were good as well! Delicious seafood nachos! I ordered a small appetizer as an entree. Best I've ever had! ???? My husband got the #17. He said it... was very good, but the salsa was a little charred. Absolutely love this eatery. The Dos Pescados was muy delicioso! I really want to give my experience 3 ?? because the bar... service was absolutely ridiculous. My friend ordered her meal and it took an hour and a half to get. We were so perturbed bythe time we left. However, the food was good enough it made up for the poor service. Eat the Tacos! My first food stop in Iowa was to take a solo walk to get tacos at Malo. This one was a home run at my first at-bat as a Des... Moines rookie. Wow. I timed it just right, and they were placing my bag of food on the table right as I walked in the door. Igot the avocado and fried onions on corn tortillas, and instead of getting a combo, I got the portobello mushrooms as my side.That way I was able to just put them on my tacos. I also got a side of fruit with sweet chili sauce. It didn't want to haveanything super spicy before my marathon (think about it) so I got the pico de gallo. The tacos were delicious, and the freshtortillas seemed handmade. The fruit was so juicy and sweet, but the stunner here was the portobello mushroom - like steakstrips. Savory and meaty but not too salty... Just amazing. I had enough left over for a second meal. Great vegan andgluten-free options. Read more
We were able to sit outside and our server by Megan B. We were both super hungry and I was very indecisive!! We added on the... queso and gauc to the chips and salsa, and all of it was great! The chips were super fresh tasting, and the gauc was reallygood. I had the Posole Colorado soup, which was tasty and the Cuban with fries, both were excellent. My S.O.
