This little shop on Woodward Avenue is the perfect example that excessive ice cream consumption CAN make this World a better... place. Over the past weekend we visited the Detroit Water Ice Factory in downtown Detroit. The combination of ice, ice cream andflavorings were absolutely delicious, and we can only highly recommend this place. More importantly, however, is that thisbusiness is not for profit. All profits go to local charities that support our neediest fellow citizens. The supervisor,Jeremiah, was amazing, too. He was working by himself over the busiest shopping weekend of the year, assisting every customerwith a smile and a kind word. Spending a little time inside a store, he told us about the store, the products and mission.Jeremiah is just a wonderful human being, and he makes all the water ice himself. Clearly, his attire alone should point to thefact that he?s alright right from the start. If you?re doing nothing else in Detroit, go and visit the Detroit Water IceFactory! This was a first for me. I've never had Italian ice and so buying a nice big cup was fun! I had the orange creamsicle, blue... raspberry and strawberry flavour. It was enjoyable. The texture was new for me but it was nice. Very sweet and the flavourswe're pretty accurate. Also I really enjoyed the outside seating as well. 4 stars outta 5. Would definitely enjoy again. The cream soda icee was good. I also got a small bag of caramel and butter pecan popcorn. There was no one ahead of me but there... was a bit of a wait to pay. I'll have to try an icee with ice cream next time. Read more
I decided to site see my hometown as a tourist and my experience was amazing. I did a strolling brunch with my kiddos. We have... a tradition of having dessert first! So we stopped here for the strawberry lemonade Italian ice & watermelon Italian ice. I'vebeen here plenty of times but it was my kiddo's first times. It was really cool to see how amazed at how delicious it was. Wesat out front in their patio area and people watched. The patio area was clean. The staff was really nice. We had a greatexperience. Yummmyyy!!! The coconut, sour apple, and creamy cookie were great! Polite service and the outdoor seating was awesome. Make sure... to ask for the soft serve if you want it paired with the water ice, it costs a little bit more but the alternative is just waterice by itself. Read more
