Our second time visiting. Loved the show that our chef put on for us. Blew what Benihana had to offer out of the water. The food... was good overall. Their ability to handle all the food allergies or intolerances in our group of ten was absolutely outstanding! We so appreciated all the extra time and care put into preparing our food. No one ended up in the ER or with follow up stomachissues which is a near miracle when dealing with issues in the group spanning diabetes, Celiac's Disease, tree nuts, shrimp, eggs, and onion allergies all at one table. Kudos to all for a job well done! We aren't locals, but will certainly be back whenwe're visiting in the area again. To those who had issues with service, aside from a couple overlooked drinks that were promptlydelivered when we brought it to their attention, we didn't experience this issue at all. Read more

I think all in our party enjoyed the food. Didn’t ask where it came from etc. my complaint is w/ cleanliness. We arrived at 4... when they opened, staff SO great; but menu’s were greasy & when I went behind hostess stand to toss my gum, the area smelledbadly of mold. The bathroom doors don’t close (there are 2) in woman’s br. & the paper towels to dry were empty uponopening at 4. They need to hire janitors who will do deep clean & spruce up bathrooms. Read more

Sadly visit 2 was not a good experience. Almost an hour wait at the table for the chef to come. When he finally came, he didn't... entertain the table beyond the 'volcano onion'... He just quietly cooked. Even the eggs that all the chefs crack at the start ofthe cook were premixed in a bowl. We also had kids sitting right in the middle seats, excited for the cooking show. He messed upsome of the order too, so some people didn't get rice and my chicken fried rice got split unnecessarily. He also laughed when heput twice as much butter across all the food. So even quality was below par. The restaurant adds a fixed 18% tip, which makesthis situation awkward... You are forced to pay it, even when a situation like this happens. I think all 3 parties at our tablewere underwhelmed tonight. Not sure we'll be back. Read more

Bit of a wait to get seated but experience was good. We were a party of 13 so they put us in the back of the restaurant.... Consider adding better ventilation in the back rooms since the chefs are playing with fire (literally). It was a bit hot in theback room. Otherwise the chef was entertaining and food was great Read more

What an awesome place. It was a bit of a wait. Our reservation was for 7 and no one came to the table to cook till 745. But...... the staff apologized for the wait and they were nice. The cooks were great, the food was delicious. I ordered lobster andshrimp! Delicious. They had a lot of fun drinks too. The place seems a little outdated but there is lots of parking and maybeanother location in Berkeley closer to me. I will be super excited to go back for the birthday deal! Oh and the wings weredelicious! Read more

Hana Japan is worth going at least once in your life. Teppanyaki grills don't always the best quality but at least the food is... hot, fresh, and fun to watch. Hana Japan has both high quality food and very talented chefs. At this price range ($31 for aplate of steak, salmon, vegetables, and fried rice) it's worth the show. Come here with a bunch of friends and you'll have agreat time. Read more
