Update: We decided to give Deluxe another try, and I'm pleased to report the chicken was much better. The meat itself was always... high quality, but this time the breading was not drowning in oil. Breading was crispy, but not crunchy, and flavorful. Still not5 stars because the side dishes leave much to be desired. The fried chicken was too greasy for our tastes, and that hasnothing to do with it being unhealthy since there's really no such thing as healthy fried food. But the breading was saturated,almost soggy, and the oil was dripping from it. Also, the breading had a slight fishy taste to it. Perhaps they use the samefryers for both chicken and seafood? The chicken meat itself was tender and seemed to be fresh and of high quality. The limeadewas delicious, not sugary/syrup-y like soda or fake lemonade, and was probably my favorite part of the meal. I have tried to love this place, but I just can't get there. It is good. I like eating there. Physical space is nice. ... Chicken is good. Love the selection of sides. Prices are fine. Counter order but service generally decent. I have had myonline order screwed up with missing items, but I don't hold that against them. I just am not really blown away by anything.Admittedly, this is an example of expectations creating a situation in which I am holding the bar higher, but I find this placeto be "fine" or "pretty good." Really good! I got the "purist" chicken sandwich which is a fried chicken sandwich with bread and butter pickles and a side of... Mac and cheese. It was very delicious. I went with a group of people and everyone enjoyed their food. Nice seating too. It's ina pretty up and coming area, there's a lot of of growth going on. It's good to see more restaurants and business in that part ofDurham. Overall, very good. Read more
