Excellent dinner food. I started with the Cheese broccoli soup and it was fantastic... Then I had the dinner staple, open face... turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. It was house roasted turkey, it too was GREAT, huge portions. I'll definitelybe back Read more

I research Places to eat on the Illinois Route 66 and this was one of them. I assumed it would be a "vintage" diner but it... seems they aren't from the old days since they just celebrated their 20th Anniversary. I had the Gypsy Skillet Breakfast whichwas quite filling. The decor is vintage Route 66 and the staff and service were excellent. Read more

Fun Route 66 decor and quick and friendly service. Food was fab and generous portions. Got combo appetizer. Also had chicken... dinner. Salad was fresh, chicken was hot and crispy. Served with fresh veg, mashed potatoes and gravy. Comfort food. Hubs hadwalleye sandwich. He had the soup and fries with his. Two huge portions of walleye on a large soft roll. This is a nice stop on the Route 66 route. It has been remodeled since the last time I was there. They did a great job on the... remodel. My son had the Philly cheesesteak sandwich and said it was very tasty. Read more

I travel all over the country for work Monday through Thursday. The fortunate part of my job is trying all of the great... restaurants along the way. I stopped at the Old Route 66 Family restaurant on my way from Chicago to Springfield. The servicewas great, the fresh ham and bean soup was a treat. I ordered the ham steak (which was HUGE) that also came with two side, andto my surprise, a dessert as well. I chose the peach pie which was reminiscent of my grandmother?s homemade peach pie fromPennsylvania. I highly recommend this place. Read more

Excellent find on the road on Memorial Day holiday. Wife and I were out and about on the motorcycle and decided it was time for... dinner. Very inviting on the outside and super cool on the inside. We were fortunate to have Erika as our waitress whorecommended the fried chicken. That was good enough for me so I went with that while my wife had chicken salad. She said herswas good while I can personally attest that the fried chicken was delicious. Erika forewarned me that ordering friend chickentakes a while as the chicken is cooked to order. It took about 1/2 hr for the meals to come out but we were warned!!!deliciouschicken ( no shiny fingers after eating it). All the food that was supposed to be hit came out piping hit. French fries werelarge cut and plentiful and very hot. Cole slaw was plentiful and delicious ( home made on site) Service was top notch/ambiancewas in a league of its own and the food was both tasty and valued priced. Would recommend this place for a stop if you aredriving down the road and anywhere near Dwight Il Read more

Old Route 66 Family Restaurant had been recently remodeled, so it almost feels too nice to be a real Route 66 diner. There is... plenty of room between tables, the service is very friendly, and the menu is extensive. I should have asked what cheese came onthe skillet - it was American - but I was able to remove it with minimal difficulty and the rest was delicious. Read more

Just adorable stop in Dwight. So excited when we walked in. Immediately greeted & seated (Friday at 6:00 pm), waitress friendly... & prompt. Salads were big, chilled, one little cucumber, good fresh red tomato chunk and a bed of yellow lettuce with a fewbrown spots. I even had some core chunks in mine. The broasted chicken was more like fried, huge pieces and very juicy. Camewith green beans, choice of potato (mine was mashed, a little dry but 3 different gravy choices helped). Hubby was extremelydissapointed in the fish. Said if he was blindfolded in a taste test, he would never of guessed it was fish. It was prebattered, overcooked and more batter than fish. His entree was fries and green beans. Our meals came with a few different options, I chosethe turtle cheesecake which tasted off. So sad to say we were very disappointed in the food. Read more
