The food is very good. Breakfasts and quiches are my favorite. Excellent pies and pastries-always! They now have a tented area... for outside dining. I mention this because some people will only eat outdoors since Covid. Read more

I went to buy 2 turkey dinners and 2 chicken pot pies. Almost $90 way up from last year. The pot pies were missing the amount... and size of the peral onions I was use to. Less vegetables just didn't taste the same. Same with the turkey dinners. Wasmissing something and I will not be back for those items. Read more

I've been a customer for 30 years. It used to have great pastry. Their pastry was in decline before they shut down for covid but... still decent. After they reopened, I stopped going almost entirely. It's fallen off so bad that I tend to drive into Berkeley togo elsewhere rather than walk 100 yards to go to Fat Apples. Their response to covid was to cut cost by reducing options, reducing some of the pastry sizes, and skimping on ingredients. They also increased prices. You can now find some of thesmallest mediocre scones at some of the highest prices. Their oatmeal cranberry scone went from having a lovely rich texture todry and nondescript. Their cookies also went from being rich and moist to crisp and tasting largely of flour. And a fewexamples. I really hope that management turns things around, but I think they're on borrowed time. They seem not to understandthat this is a premium market driven largely by quality. Read more

Since reopening the menu is reduced and some of my favorites like the onion rings are no longer offered. Service quality also... seems to have dipped. Still a decent spot for food but what happened to quality service in America you can?t find it anywhere. Read more

I used to go regularly to both FA branches, and liked them a lot. Then I didn't go for quite awhile (can you say COVID?) ... On October the first, of this year, I and 3 friends went to the Fairmont branch for breakfast. Sadly we were all disappointed.First, we didn't like having to stand in line AFTER we found a table and seated ourselves, in order to place our orders. Second,no free refills for those of us who'd ordered coffee. Yes the paper cups they served the coffee in were tall, but why paper inthe first place if we were dining in? Soon after standing in line to place our orders at the counter and placing ourorders one by one, and then walking back to our table, our food was served to us by a friendly, smiling waitress -- and ittasted as good as ever, so the story had a happy ending. Nonetheless, we agreed, unanimously never to return. Read more

I used to love this place. But that was so long ago. Prices went way, way up, portions, quality, and taste went way, way down.... And this started way before the pandemic. They used to have the best pastries, particularly the scones, but those taste likerocks now. The only remaining item I'll still get is the cheese puff. Read more

Fat Apples is the best neighborhood place for breakfast and lunch. The almond danishes are so good and their Kirschkuchen so... very German. Love their chicken sandwich and the super yummy fries. Read more

Delightful! This really is a "people's" place. Lots of locals. Wonderful selection of pastries and cooked meals for breakfast.... Enjoyed a lazy Saturday morning, sitting on the patio, munching on a cheese puff and blueberry hand pie before we were servedour egg breakfast. The home fries are so tasty, could have just had those for breakfast! The employees were all friendly andhelpful, especially when I had to go back in to order more tasty treats. Hope to swing back by before our vacation ends! Update:we came back. So good!! Read more
