I used to work here, twenty five years ago, and my father ate at the restaurant here almost nightly. I was coming back to visit... some friends for the holiday, and decided to stay here, as it used to play such a large roll in my family's life. Hugelydisappointed. The restaurant and pub were both closed, the pool completely drained for "routine maintenance", and the rooms arein dire need of updating. Staff was courteous. If I wanted a bare bones stay, I would have stayed at the Super 8. Read more

I should?ve written this review months ago. I found the card sitting in my coffee table with the name of who I needed to thank. ... On July 18 I was sent to beautiful Escanaba for work. I was happy to see that they had an airport right in the town. I didn?tknow however, they my late flight would mean that I didn?t have access to the car rental. I was booked in a hotel in Marquetteabout an hour away. As I was traveling the trip started to unravel. There were no car options so I worked with someone to stayat the pioneer inn and suites for the night. When I arrived at the airport a business traveler like myself was able to get hiscar and offered to drive me to my hotel. I didn?t have him stay to see if it was all good. Kathy, the hotel clerk could not findmy name in the system and I didn?t have much to offer but she got me a room and gave me maybe the triple a discount. She alsomade breakfast happen a little earlier so that I could get to work. She took me to work in their van and let me keep my bagthere until I could go get my car. I told her manager how grateful I was but that I hadn?t gotten the name of the clerk. Itold her I?d write a review and here we are many months later. While I?m used to these travel adventures I don?t always findthe kindness of strangers. Thank you for turning that day around for me. Read more

It was clean and the temperatures were controlled and comfortable. Breakfast was light but had fruits. I think it was good all... around for the price. Read more

Room was quiet and spacious but few normal comfort items were provided. The room for two had just one tiny bar of hand soap,... one tiny bar of bath soap, no lotion, no alarm clock, no data charging port ... We had to switch rooms because the first roomsmelled like paint (which had been done quite some time ago) and the commode was dirty! They were nice about switching roomsbut, it certainly wasn't worth the $150+ rate they charged. There also was no longer a restaurant, which was disappointing. We hadstayed her previously and it was so much nicer :( Read more

Having come here out of my own unpreparedness and needing to find a place for the night, the King Jacuzzi suite was the only... room left @ $200 a night. Now, I wouldn't have had a problem with this if the room wasn't a complete throwback to 1983 includingthe ancient disgusting smell of smoke from an era long ago when this suite was most likely a smoking room. If I had actuallywanted the $200 king suite experience from this hotel, I would have been greatly disappointed.....mostly this place hadfisherman booked in the rooms, and it works great for that. I will say the young man who checked me in was very kind andcourteous for how busy he seemed! This place would be nice if some major updates were completed or prices were adjusted. Read more

The hotel very dated, the front desk never said anything about breakfast or where to go or when check out was. Got to the room... and it was clean i will give them that. However it is dated, you don't have to have a key to get into the side doors of thebuilding and in the morning around 9:30 someone whom i assume was housekeeping opened iur door!! Thank god the chain was on butno knock at all!! it really freaked me out. They should not just walk into a room they need to knock first then ipen the door ifnobody answers!! Definitely wouldn't stay again. Read more

We hadn?t necessarily panned on staying in Escanaba on our way through the Upper Peninsula, but we are so glad we did! Beyond... the beauty of the parks and lakeshore, this hotel was a great find for us! We didn?t have reservations - we just walked in andchecked out room rates and availability. We opted for the slightly more expensive king bed suite that features a sleeper sofa(our son is young and small enough to just sleep on the sofa without folding it out, but the sofa bed was set with sheets and ablanket if needed). The rates were very reasonable and I feel absolutely fair for the accommodations - there are cheaper placesin town, but the little extra really shows in the staff, amenities, and room appointments. There was a small refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker in our room, as well as a desk, seating area, and coffee table. The room was very clean and neat -the carpet and furniture were clean and stain-free. The bathroom was surprisingly larger than the average corporate chainhotel?s offering, and was well-stocked and clean as well. The parking and entrances are conveniently located all the way aroundthe building, so we were able to park directly in front of our ground-floor room and access it quickly and easily. We stayed ona Tuesday night, so while I can report that the hotel was quiet and no too crowded, your experience may vary if you visit on aweekend. Reading reviews isn?t always illuminating when it comes to choosing a hotel in a town you?re just passing through, soI?d like to note that I only rate places that I feel deserve your attention - I?d definitely stay here again and would recommendit to friends and family.
