Staff was nice hence 2 stars but food wasn?t good. Had the regular beef burrito which I will say was fully filled with... (borderline unseasoned) ground beef. It wouldn?t stay together so I had to use a fork/knife the entire time. I think I saw ~5beans in it and a little green salsa. Most disappointing part was the guac for chips. They should mash less and add moreseasoning. Tasted like citrus. Prior to visiting, I remember ordering online only to find out they were closed after I arrived.I couldn?t find anything on social media/their phone # about it being closed. Had to dispute it with my credit card companysince no one returned my call or email. Interesting way to handle business. Middlebury Mad Taco was infinitely better. Read more
ITS BACK! Food is great, atmosphere is great, the People that work there are great! Place is a must go! Consider this joint... the best Tacos in the North East. I have yet to find better. Read more
I ordered online, went to pick up my food, turns out they were closed. Card was charged. Website says they?re open. That?s... absolutely ridiculous. I understand having to close sometimes but you should turn off online ordering when this happens. Youcan?t take money from people if you?re not open as a business. Read more
Carnitas super good tacos, beef tacos too spicy!!
We loved the food, the ambience reminded me of Mexico, ie, nothing fancy, customer service was fine, courteous and gave good... suggestions for his favorites. It seems like more of a take out place, although we ended up eating there. I only gave 4 starsbecause it is very expensive, especially for Mexican. Marg?s $12, large and really tasty, but that?s a lot! For 2, of us, thebill was $84. We will go back because the food was great, but will get take out and make our own drinks just to keep the costdown. Overall, great if you?re not worried about cost. Read more
The food has been great every time I've been there, the option to buy the meat by the pound is great, and the people who work... there have always been fantastic. BUT Maybe at some point, the owners will realize that if they pay people enough to live,they won't have staffing shortages that prevent them from being open consistently. Every day is a mystery. Will they be open?Will online ordering work? Will there be anyone to answer the phones? Who knows. Of all of the restaurants in the EssexExperience, Mad Taco is the only one that isn't open consistently, and it seems as if it's just a matter of time before theyfinally decide that paying their workers is less important than staying open at all, and they'll close up shop. It's a shame,because the food is actually good. EDIT: I'm keeping the review because $15 an hour isn't even close to enough for someone tolive within driving distance from Essex, VT. Tips don't make up for it. They just shift responsibility for a livable wage fromthe owners to customers. Don't make excuses, do better. Read more
For being short staffed, this place is a definite for anything burrito. Pork belly is one of my favorite meats and to see it... made in front of me and to be crispy is the best. I think it's called the Mad Taco because you will leave "mad". I brought someone with me to eat at the essex location. I orderd... two tacos and they ordered a burrito bowl. We gave the kimchi a try too. The tacos were....not good. Yes the presentation wasnice, but the filling was tasteless and I couldnt even pick up the tacos, they were sitting in "liquid" (meat juice) so muchthat the taco shells were soggy. The kimchi was NOT what you would expect, even from a Korean restaurant. It was very very very"Americanized" (toned down). I left "mad" because of the price of the food and the tasteless soggy tacos i ate. I will not begoing back. I can male better tacos at home and it will be much cheaper and tastier. Read more
