Very friendly service, but understaffed so quite slow. Prices are high, but food quality matches, although in my personal... opinion Lavender is not a flavor that should be added to French toast. Coffee is just ok. Read more

The service was competent and efficient, with our server being particularly friendly and well-trained. The beer and cocktail... menu are both very nice. What we found disappointing was the food. For the prices, one would expect elevated fare, andconsidering this is a culinary resort, the food should be cooked with good technique. All of our dishes were bland. Veggies werea cheap and uninspired pile of zucchini and summer squash to accompany a steak with almost no sear, no flavor, and which wasovercooked. Pork belly was completely tasteless, and the accompanying pineapple salsa looked like it had been made a few daysago, as the pineapple chunks were withered and sad. The restaurant puts on the pretenses of an upscale casual diningestablishment, but execution is lacking leading to an overpriced experience. Sadly, salt would have almost saved this meal, which is too simple an error for a culinary resort to make. The grounds are beautiful, with a lovely kitchen shop, gardens, andpicturesque buildings. The hospitality company which owns this property should think about investing in kitchen staff as much asthey do aesthetics to make the food match the beauty of the establishment. Read more

We had family visiting from out of state and they stayed at the Essex. We had breakfast at the tavern before they left and it... was really nice. We were in a room by ourselves and we could all talk and hear each other. Our food was great and our server wasvery attentive. It made for a really nice end to our visit. Read more

Lovely staff, small but well-rounded menu, great fries. I'm not sure how well I liked a pumpernickel bun for a salmon burger,... but it was at least different. The tiramisu was amazing, though! Read more

This is a very pleasant facility with plenty of space and light. The menu is presented a "pub food", but it is much more varied... and inventive than that cliche' implies. Hanger steak was perfect and bacon cheeseburger also excellent. Prompt, professionalservice was also a plus. The room was a little loud, but it was Friday evening, so high spirits were in evidence. Notinexpensive, but totally worth it. Highly recommend. Read more
