Had a 6pm res last night and got there just before 6pm. Ordered a bottle of wine and sipped our water. It didn't seem too busy... but there is definitely a lack of help here. Server finally came back to say sorry for the delay the bartender is very busyright now. Tried to change our order to cocktails as she said that would be faster and then she dashed to another table said shehad to take their order first. It got close to 6:30 and we decided to leave due to lack of/or no service! Went to the KingstonHouse and had an excellent meal! Unless they hire more help here don't bother with the Epoch! Read more

I want to first say that our waitress was very nice. The food however left quite a lot to be desired considering the price... points. My grandmother ordered the burrata salad with grilled chicken and I ordered the $22 pappardelle dish with no protein. The pasta was barely al dente and was VERY bland as if no seasoning or salt was used at all. It was barely warm and looked asif it had been sitting around for a while. I mentioned it to our waitress and she apologized and said it was the fourth timethat night it was being returned. She asked if I wanted her to take it back to get it how it was supposed to be made in thefirst place. I decided to go with the same order as my grandmother because her grilled chicken was cooked perfectly. When Ireceived mine, the chicken was very dry and barely warm. About 15 minutes later, another order of chicken burrata salad came tothe table by a different waitress, which we told the waitress wasn?t ours since I had received mine already. We then waitednearly 45 minutes after we finished eating to get our check and wait again to pay. Again, our waitress was very nice but nearlythe entire experience left a lot to be desired considering the price point of most of the dishes, the reputation of therestaurant, and the previous reviews. The outdoor seating is great. The inside is meh. I've been there several times this summer and a few times in the past. The food... is always surprisingly good! This summer we've had the mussels every time and they are fantastic! Read more
To start on a positive, the tomato soup was delicious and our cocktails were good. Unfortunately the rest of our experience was... terrible. Being sat right next to the largest table in the restaurant and next to the staff computer when the rest of therestaurant was pretty empty was confusing. Spending our meal listening to the staff having discussions at the computer and popmusic playing from a random speaker (not the same music playing in the rest of the restaurant) was extremely irritating. Therest of our food was bland, I couldn't even finish half of my meal. I had the fish tacos, my husband had the burger and thecheese wasn't even melted on his burger. The pros.... The food is really good and the pricing on point. The Cons... We were at the bar and the service was terrible on a... Friday night. Long waits and uninterested bartenders.... UPDATE! Went back on a weds night... the bartender was terrible. Attitude and rudeness is not how u tend bar UPDATE! UPDATE!! WOW! what a difference! New bartender Krista is a rockstar! For anyone traveling to New England, it is worth visiting the little town of Exeter and stop by Epoch Restaurant. I tried the... Fried Green Tomatoes and Short Rib Cavetelli, ending with the Apple Cobler. Great atmosphere, great food, great service. Read more
Thanksgiving Day -Let me start with the one of two positives which was our waitress. She was great! From there it was... disappointing. Our reservation was at 3:30. We were seated at 4:00 by what seemed a frazzled hostess (no Happy ThanksgivingGreeting). Restaurant was busy so we let that slide. The decor of restaurant was blah. No table clothes, holiday centerpiece,not even salt or pepper. The buffet (if called that) had very limited selection and food was cold. I overheard that the 3:30seating was the last seating of the day- ahh now it made sense as to why the presentation of the food surrounding the chaffingdishes was messy. I felt like we were getting the scraps. IT WAS terrible! Also the desserts looked store bought and driedout. For a holiday meal which was not cheap I would have expected better from the Exeter Inn. The second positive we decidedwas we didn?t have to worry about gaining any extra pounds as we didn?t get seconds. Will not go again Read more
