My wife and I had been hanging on to a gift certificate for the Tavern for years now and suddenly found a gap in our schedules... that this filled. The Tavern has a small town feel to it. Once you go inside, you feel like you're in a place where you belong. You almost expect Norm to come walking through the door and you yelling out his name. The food was excellent! I had the wedgesalad which was enormous and delicious as did my wife. Next I had the pierogi and it was out of this world. Drinks were servedquickly and the food was excellent and well priced. Would definitely recommend as a little hidden gem in Exeter that should bevisited. The owner was gracious and great to talk to and I look forward to going there again. Read more

It won't win any Michelin stars, but that's not why we visited. The dinner was ok and the atmosphere is very small town... friendly. Read more

The experience at the Tavern at Rivers Edge was one of the worst dining experiences my wife and I have ever had. We went for... dinner on a Wednesday evening. First, the place is located downstairs and not accessible and reeked of smoke. Upon entering wewere not greeted by anyone and finally told to "sit wherever." After seating ourselves we waiting for 10 minutes to be seen. Themenu is extremely misleading. The food sounds fantastic and is written well but it was horrid. We ordered an appetizer anddinner at the same time. The bri cheese board appetizer was not good. Truthfully the brie was lukewarm at best, and everythingseemed to be thrown on the plate from the grocery story. We ordered the two most expensive items on the menu, a pork dinner anda sirloin. We could not even make it through half of our food before throwing in the towel. The flavors were terrible, the smellwas even worse. We just wanted to pay and leave but had to wait literally 20 minutes to get the server to come back to ourtable. We just sat and learned sign language together. However, while payig, the food was running through me and sent mestraight to the bathroom in a bad sort of way. We paid and bolted out of there never to return. To what my wife has dubbed "TheTerrible Tavern." It is one of those places that it's so horribly bad you have fun because of it?! DO NOT RECOMMEND this placefor food but a drink at the bar may be a different experience. Read more

What a great surprise right downtown Exeter! Met Jeff the owner who has owned this place for 20+ years. Lively, welcoming, and... fun environment? I can see how many become regulars. We ordered drinks and dinner. Highly, highly recommend the mussels! We willdefinitely be back. Read more

Great food and service. I had two people wait on me. I ordered the house wings with hot sauce and blue cheese. Not to hot but... tasted good. You will need extra napkins, which were provided. For my main course, I had haddock with seared sweet potato withrice pilaf and veggies. For dessert, I had buttercream tart with pumpkin latte ice-cream drizzled with caramel. Both dinner anddessert were good. My table wobbled, but, my server and I fixed it with a piece of cardboard. Music wasn't to loud, but it wasquiet due to bad weather. I would recommend a visit. I don't know how the handicap can visit. Wifi available. Update: November10,2018 Great food and service again! For the appetizer; Seared yellowfin tuna, slightly rare, with hoisen sauce with grilledavacado on cilantro cole slaw. Made my eyes water, a little. Salad; Grilled beets and ???? cheese with balsamic vinaigrette.Dinner; salmon with long grain wild rice with broccoli. Dessert; the largest helping of tiramisu I have ever been served. SorryGaucho's. Very quiet place. Please visit. Update: August 2019; I had the Artichoke Bruschetta for an appetizer and the GrilledPetite Filet mignon for my main course. Dessert was Swiss chocolate cake. I enjoyed my meal! Great service!. Update: November,2019; I had the feta dip as an appetizer with Filet mignon with vegetables, mashed potatoes and grilled mushrooms. I had whatthey called raspberry cheesecake. The cake slice was huge and tasted good! I enjoyed my meal and the service was good. Onlyissue, the restaurant was cold in the dining area. A couple left because of the cold. I still recommend a visit. Update:January, 2020; Still good service and food. I had French onion soup for an appetizer, marinated steak with garlic mashedpotatoes and regular broccoli. Chocolate cake for dessert. Menu was smaller than last time and main restaurant section was stillcold. I ate next to the bar. Bill Cosby, ugh, was correct in saying that the more people drink, the less they a Read more

We were looking for a cozy, quaint place in Exeter to go on a rare date and have some time away alone. We like unhyped, "hole in... the wall" type restaurants, and if that's what you look for as well, I recommend it. It's a super simple storefront right indowntown, and it is indeed a small rustic dining room and bar (shouldn't be a surprise as the original building is probably 200+years old?), so if you're looking for a glitzy, showy high end place, this is not it. The owner Jeff is the host and is veryfriendly, going out of his way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The waitress we had was super friendly as well, veryeasy going, and pleasant. The food we had was great (steak tips with risotto). The only "con" I can think of is that the Caesardressing we had was SOOO strong with garlic and seasoning. Like, very strong. So maybe get a different dressing for your saladif you want to keep your breath somewhat tolerable for the next several hours, ha ha. I like to give the benefit of the doubt,so we chalked it up to it maybe not being made right that night? It wasn't a big deal to be honest and did not outweigheverything else that was right about the experience. The location is perfect, right by the river, and a couple doors down from agreat ice cream shop that was also excellent. Thank you Jeff & Co! Read more

My family stopped there last night for a quick dinner and was not disappointed. A few mussels and buffalo wings to start and... then the entrees. My son got the burger, definitely the right choice. The cocktails were perfect and my wife loved the 'RumThing'. The ambiance with the old mill brick interior is very nice. I would recommend this place if you are in the Exeter area. Read more
