After a bad experience a year ago, my wife and I decided to give it one more chance. I started going to the original Pepe's in... New Haven in 1985, so I have first hand experience with the original. The service was fantastic however the crust was verythick, nothing like the original. It lacked the same sooty flavor, perhaps due to being slightly undercooked. It seems as thoughthe satellite restaurants are losing the handle on how to make the pizza like the original New Haven restaurant. My wife and Idecided we will never go back. On a side note we noticed there was no line out the door as was always the case on warm Saturdayafternoon and evenings. Perhaps this is the reason. Someone from the family needs to sample each satellite restaurant's pies toensure it is the same quality and taste, if that is even possible. We won't be back. Read more
Did some research and found too spot for pizza on Connecticut. Tried the home favorite white clam pizza and it was delicious.... The pizzas are nice thin crust and have a great wood fire taste. Cherry on top, it?s right off the highway so a drive by issuper easy especially if your making a long drive to Maine or something. Read more
We've seen Frank Pepe's on Food Network and friends have highly recommended it. Now I'm one that's strongly recommending it!... I've been all over the country and this is hands down one of the best pizzas I've ever had. The service was great as well! Ifyou're ever in the area, this is a MUST try! Love the decor and style of this larger Fairfield Frank Pepe's. The service was friendly and very efficient. Ordered a White... Clam and a Saus & Mushroom. They both came out in a timely fashion- but very wet making it hard to pick up the slices to eat asthey had deep little puddles of clear liquid? (Not grease). The leftovers were better the next day. Pepperoni cheese pizza. So delicious! Thin and crispy. Pizza cooked in coal fired oven. Staff super friendly - - being our... first time there they invited us to watch their operation. They were super busy upon opening. We dined in and watched thenonstop flow of people for both dine in and take out. As busy as it was they were very organized.
