The Rice is a hidden gem located in otherwise an unremarkable plaza in Mission Viejo. Great unique Japanese food, and great... service. Their outdoor dining is a little awkward, because this is mostly meant to be a whole in the wall type restaurant. I hadthe tuna donburi which had amazingly thick pieces of fatty tuna. My fellow diners had the gyoza bento box, the jidori chickenudon, and we shared an order of edamame. Everything was authentic, tasty and great value. Read more

I very seldom rate or post, but just had to after multiple meals here. There is no ambiance to be experienced here, but it?s... not needed when it?s absolutely the very best Japanese cuisine! This is traditional, not the typical fare you?ll find at thechains or bigger venues. Most of the menu I had never heard of, but but absolutely everything was truly incredible. TheDonburi (sashimi) is the freshest, and highest quality you?ll find in the area?incredible Blue-fin and spot prawns! But thesuperstar dishes are the ones using their house broth. There are several, but I really liked the udon soup with spicy cod roe(mentaiko)?truly mind blowing! If you?re looking for delicious Japanese ?comfort? food, and don?t need an intimate or elegantsetting (or don?t mind take-out), you won?t go wrong here. Read more

Family dined here tonight. I had Ginger Pork. Wow! Deep, rich, savory flavor, wholesome and satisfying ! This restaurant is... serving authentic Japanese but also Chef?s style comes thru, and it?s not boring because of ongoing specials. Not too hard onthe pocketbook, either!
