This Spotsylvania, VA area restaurant is at the far back of the shopping center and a little difficult to locate at first. It... was pleasant homey decor as always with pretty welcoming twinkle lights on porch and cozy lamplight and fire crackling in bigstone hearth. We have multiple food allergies and the server was utterly confused and very soft spoken. We communicated ourneeds and eventually requested a manager who was much more helpful and whom we could understand. The French toast I ordered forsome reason was served as 3 small 1/2 slices of bread with generous strawberries which I can only assume was a kid?s portionthat I did not order. When I asked for the rest of it in another serving we were charged again what appears to have been for afull meal portion but again received same small amount. Cracker Barrel is changing more and more trying to be all things addingunnecessary alcohol and all manner of seasonal specials and types of foods while forgetting their roots as a family friendlysouthern comfort food that gets it right on the basics. A smaller dependable menu would be so much better and vegetables thatwere actually just vegetables not cooked in any animal fat or salt or extras, just garden fresh as they used to be. One thing about Cracker Barrel restaurants is they're consistent. The food is always served fresh and in a timely manner. I had... the check friend steak and cheesy hash brown casserole which I love. Our server waited on us immediately and with a smile. Ourfood was served in about 20 minutes hot and fresh. Overall the restaurant was clean and tidy. My only negative is the entrywaywith the seasonal nicnaks causes serious congestion just trying to get checked in for dining. There's hardly any room to skirtaround a person shopping. My server Sissy was the highlight of my visit, she is very outgoing and has a great personality. She engages with customers and... is very good-humored. I had the mama's pancake breakfast with blueberries. it came out quick and everything was hot. It waspretty good, not great. they use too much oil/grease/shortning on the griddle when cooking the pancakes. this is not a one-offbut the norm here. To the point that the pancakes are almost crispy in places like a funnel cake. good, but kind of heavy andthey don't take well to the syrup. but hey, it's cracker barrel and this location is pretty good overall. the place is clean,the floor was not sticky, the tables were very clean, like they used hot water to clean it. overall a good experience and i'llbe back. I have been enthusiastically visiting Cracker Barrel any time I can while visiting from Canada. The menu offerings are all great... examples of southern cooking and no matter the location the standards and service are exceptional. Cracker Barrel is always a great place to eat and this place didn?t disappoint. We had to wait a while with having a larger... group but the food was great.
