I've lived in 5 southern states and this place has the BEST brisket I've ever had. The owner said it was smoked for 18 hours; it... tasted like heaven. The wings were super flavorful and the meat just falls of the bone. The mac n cheese was creamy and had anice slight spice to it. This food is solid. I am from the South and prefer charcoal to smoke, but I'd eat here again. The brisket was tender, pulled... pork pretty good, cole slaw was different, but not bad at all. Seemed to have a mustard/vinegar base. All in all, we liked it. Read more

Brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, wings, ribs, Mac and Cheese, beans, potato salad, corn bread(I'm not usually a fan of corm... bread, but this was great!) are Excellent! Great service! The food may be good, but I wouldn?t know because I kept getting ghosted by the owner. I called the restaurant to order trays of... food for a reunion bbq I?m having. I spoke to the owner who said to deal with him directly. He gave me his number and instructedme to text him my order, so that he can give me a price. Never heard back from him. I called Mr. Mackie to get a price and hesaid he will send it to me the following day. He didn't. This went on 3 times, so I decided to move on to another restaurant.His poor customer service cost him an $1000.00 catering order. Because of this, I won?t even eat here. Read more

I visited their Gaithersburg location and thought I had made a wrong turn. I had some trouble finding it and was a bit surprised... when I did. They?re located in an industrial type storefront that at first glance does not look like any restaurants would beand you can easily drive right past it. They do have another location in Frederick. I ordered the ribs and brisket. All I cansay is this location is a hidden gem. The food was amazing! The ribs were so flavorful and tender and the brisket was cooked toperfection. If the industrial storefront with one rickety picnic table out front wasn't enough to give us pause about Mackie's Southern BBQ... in Gaithersburg, the almost complete lack of interior furnishings made us wonder if we were even in the right place. We hadbeen to the Mackie's location in Frederick, but were unaware that this Gaithersburg location was primarily for catering. When weapproached the maitre d' stand, which was a white folding table with a single laminated menu lying crooked upon it, a manappeared from the back room and greeted us in a friendly manner. He explained that they had performed several catering jobs thatday and gave us a rundown of the items they had available (it was not the full menu). We ordered beef brisket sandwiches, macand cheese, and potato salad. ????The sandwich was tangy and filling, the mac and cheese was particularly flavorful and thepotato salad was delicious. Free waters were brought out to us as we sat at the outside table, bundled up against a winterbreeze. Like we said the maitre d? was so friendly! This is more than five star food; this is five star treatment as well! Cameron, the owner?s son, went out of his way to... graciously answer all of my questions and cooked all of the food I purchased immediately before I had scheduled to pick it up.Who does that!? :) The food was truly exceptional. The ribs were done to perfection. I am obsessed with the smokehouse wings(pic shows sauce on side), and the slaw, mac, and cornbread were phenomenal. Hands down the best spot for bona-fide Barbecue!
