So yummy! The food was pretty good, it is at a pretty penny though. We ended up getting the patty melt, poutine, potato and... cheese soups. All were great! The cheese soup was by far one of the best soups I have ever had. They had live entertainment whointeracted with the crowd and it was enjoyable to be apart of. The entire atmosphere is very Irish and it is nice to have suchan unique place like this in Galena. I want to when they have Irish dancers, I’m sure that would be great! Read more
We went here 2 nights in a row the food and service was amazing! The stout gravy with the fried chicken was to die... for(pictured). The first night I had the pub burger and that was wonderful as well. The horseradish cheese on it was likenothing I had had before. We had Brandon and Syndia both were amazing. Read more
The beef in the shepherd's pie was very dry and over-cooked. We were very disappointed in the Scotch egg. The poutine was... delicious. They were out of Guinness. The servers were super sweet, when they actually came around. The woodwork is beautiful. Read more
This place was the best. We ate the twice when we visit Galena. Great customer service????. Live band at 7pm he was funny and... its fun. Lovely fish and chip so far the best fish I've ever had in this country. Careful about that fried chicken its prettyhot when they serve it but it was delicious. Great, Wonderful, Fun, Delicious Food,Courteous Staff. The Hotel(The Irish Cottage) and Restaurant (Frank O'Dowd's Pub) is a... location you should check out if you are in the Galena Illinois are. The Irish Cottage has very nice affordable and comfortablerooms. The hotel has a lot of very interesting Irish artifacts and art work. Frank O'Dowd's Pub has a nice selection of IrishWhiskey. The food is delicious. They also have a great breakfast brunch for the hotel guests. The only reason I do not givethem 5 stars is because of the Pub. Unlike the Irish Cottage with all the Irish decorations and commitment to the Irish theme.Frank O'Dowd's falls a bit short. Their selection of Irish Whiskey is nice, especially if you like Jameson, but the rest oftheir selection is a little week. Also the food is very good but weak on Irish food. They have British and Scottish choices.They do have Shepard's Pie, but How about a few others like Colcannan or Irish Stew. Read more

We ate at Frank O'Dowds after an evening checking at the Irish Cottage Inn. It was so nice to be able to just walk over to the... restaurant after unpacking and getting comfortable. The atmosphere was great. Lots of furniture and bar equipment fromIreland. The restaurant has a great feel! The service was great and attentive. I got the fish and chips, which is usuallyquite a gamble in most restaurants. But It was absolutely done perfectly here! I knew I was in for a treat when they offeredmalt vinegar as a condiment! The fish was flaky and firm. The batter was crispy and not wet or soggy. My wife had a modernversion of Corned Beef and cabbage. The meat was so tender and the cabbage was pickled and not boiled beyond recognition. Iwill come here again and again. Read more
