My husband and I walked in on a recommendation from our hotel concierge and were very lucky to be accommodated, as they were... very busy. From the moment we were greeted to the moment we said goodnight the service was top notch! The food was fantastic,by far our best culinary experience on Salt Spring Island. If you come here this is hands down a must! I recommend you make areservation because I think everyone else knows how good this place is. What a lovely way to spend our last evening on theisland. Recently visited Salt Spring Island and came across this cute homie restuarant, Auntie Pesto?s. It?s definitely a must try if... you?re in the area for some solid pasta and a view of the boardwalk if you sit on the heated patio (which I recommend). Weordered: ???? Bolognese ???? Mussels with pomme frites ????Auntie?s Pesto I?d say my favourite was Auntie?s Pesto withParpadelle, along with the pomme frites. The pesto had good flavour, yet not too oily - it was simple and made well. Pastaportions are large, so I?d say an appy or two and 1 large pasta is enough for 2 people. Price is decent for what you get aswell. Staff were nice, good atmosphere and no complaints on my end. Reserved a table for a party of 4. But a long series of niggles and problems couldn't save the review score. Here is everything... that went wrong: 1. You can only reserve a table by calling or emailing. But if you try on their two days off per week, you'llhave to wait until the next working day for the confirmation. 2. When we arrived they checked the vaccination records but onlyvisually. They didn't check the authenticity of the QR code online. 3. They gave us the worst table which is sitting on bencheswith only hard wooden support for backs, and one guest sits with back against the window with no back rest. We asked to switch. And other tables were open. But they refused. It seems like other guests reserve particular tables, but this is not clear onthe website. 4. The non alcohol drinks menu in very boring, and there was nothing interesting for me. Luckily I asked aboutginger beer and they had that even though it wasn't on the menu. They brought it with a glass with ice, and half poured thebottle into the glass. 5. Later they never asked us about more drinks or more water. I had to eventually ask for anotherginger beer. The new ginger beer arrived but no new glass with ice or pouring. It was expected that I would use the old glasswith the mostly melted ice and pour it myself. 6. The appetizers arrived in a normal period of time but there was a very longwait for the main courses. Eventually 3 out of 4 main courses turned up. But then I was told they ran out of potatoes for mydish. Would I like a substitute? Extra veg? I had no choice but to except... what else could I do? 7. When my steak finallyturned up late, it looked kind of naked. And although the steak knife was sharp, the steak was tough to cut. Wasn'timpressed. 8. Visited Auntie Pesto's with my wife to celebrate her birthday dinner. Our server had only been working for a few weeks I can't... recall her name, however her knowledge of the menu was very in depth. She recommended a few items for us, and we decided to gowith what she suggested. We were not disappointed, the food was amazing. You can taste the freshness. I ordered the beefstroganoff, my wife enjoyed the seafood dil Alfredo. Whenever our glass was empty, our server was quick to top it up.
