A unique inn in a lovely setting. The hotel appears to have been updated recently, and everything was in great condition. We had... dinner al fresco. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. Moreover, the food was surprisingly delicious and expertlyprepared. The hotel is lucky to have such a talented chef on board. The inn is only minutes from the Avenue of the Giants,making this a no-brainer place to stay if you are visiting the redwoods. Read more
Rode past this place for years growing up decades ago, but never got to see the inside. Fortune was with me on a trip through... the area. Stayed over night. Very cool place! Very nice place filled with history. Built in the 1920's, the halls are filled with photos and art from over the years. Even... a photo of Clark Gable flying in to stay. The grounds are truly remarkable and the staff is even better. Room very comfortableand why anyone would stay anywhere else while traveling thru here makes no sense to me. The price is not that much more than a1 star hotel along the Famous Route 101 Coastal Scenic Highway. Everything on this Scenic Route is expensive. So why not stayhere in luxury for a little more and enjoy the finer things in life? Read more
When we travel we like to stay at historic hotels that have character. We selected Benbow for that reason and we weren't... disappointed. The hotel is filled with antiques and art that support its historic past. The sole reason for our trip was to seethe coastal redwoods on the Avenue of the Giants. The hotel arranged a tour of the redwoods with Justin, a local naturalist andhe was outstanding! He took us to areas that weren't crowded with tourists where we could enjoy the peacefulness and majesty ofthe forest. Justin was very informative and answered all of our questions about the plant life and history of the redwoods inthis area. He also provided us with sources for additional reading. The tour with Justin was the highlight of our trip and wewill be back for a follow-up. Read more
We flew from Virginia Beach to enjoy the Redwoods. Drove up from San Francisco with no reservations anywhere and found Benbow... quite by happy accident. Can say without exaggeration that it is the most pleasant accommodation I have ever experienced. Perfect in every way from the room to the outdoor space to the exceptional staff. We enjoyed it so much that after we spent thenext night in Crescent City (avoid that if at all possible - the worst accommodation), we returned to Benbow for our final nightbefore returning ro San Fran. We had an incredible stay. The room was magnificent, with a grand fireplace and garden view, and giant redwoods in our view! The... best part of the stay was an incredible tour of the redwoods by Justin Legge. He is so incredibly knowledgeable about theredwoods, and had the best stories!
