I'm just going to talk about Hackney's onion rings because, while there are lots of reasons to eat at Hackney's, you really... don't need any other reasons. The onion rings are simply spectacular. You'll enjoy eating them, you'll enjoy talking about themthe next day just as much -- IF you can find anyone who doesn't already know about them. Hackney's Original French Fried Onions,as the menu calls them, come in big bricks. This picture is half a brick. It's under ten bucks. For another two bucks you canget the full brick. Yes, it's a lot of onion rings but they're also really GOOD onion rings, crispy and surprisingly light. Theyalso have Reuben sandwiches and the famous Hackneyburger, and probably a lot of other things. Get one of them, I'm sure you'llenjoy it, but we both know you're there to get those rings. Read more
Well, my great grandparents, grandparents, parents, and now my cousins children have been coming here, for a total of 5... generations, so I’m a bit biased but with an attempt to step back from that I would say this is a great place to go and eatwithout having to give it much thought. It’s a nice child friendly retreat to go and share a brick of onion rings with friendsand loved ones. Long live Hackney’s! Read more
The black bean vegan burger isn’t bad but it’s also not anything to write home about; underwhelmed. It’s basically the... only vegan choice as well (unless you get salad). Would be great for Hackney’s to be more diet inclusive instead of stuck inthe past with an antiquated menu. The beer was good, family style fries are good. The onion loaf is always good. I planned a private party there for last night. We were in the Shillelagh Room. The bartender was fantastic, very friendly and... welcoming, our waitress was also fabulous. Everyone enjoyed the food. The restaurant had a lot to do with making the party asuccessful. I have been going into Hackneys on Lake and Harms for so many years and I have enjoyed it everytime. If you want anice place for a get together, Hackneys is the place. Read more

Way over priced for the tiny but tasty portions. $14 for only 2 Corned Beef egg rolls ad the "mini" burgers are about the size... of a quarter.... I doubt I will go back any time soon. Read more
A friend reserved a room for a luncheon after her husband's funeral. Anyone's whose been here knows the resturant is large with... many rooms, its was Saturday afternoon we were a group of around 50. She had arranged several menu choices along with friedonion loaf and an assortment of beer wine water and soda. This was the 2nd Saturday in August and it was very hot, in the low90s, our group had about a dozen older people. We were placed in a room in the front of the resturant that was literal "passthough" for the room next to it and the patio outside. The room had NO AIR CONDITIONING. Before you think well this happens.. nothey allowed people from other parties to walk through our party space, they had to be asked to close the door so they couldn'tallow strangers to disrespectful walk through our space. The ultimate insult was I went to the bathroom. There completely empty,tables set COOL WITH AC was the Albert room that could have been used for our party. I have been to this resturant probably 100times in the past 40 years never ever has the attention to service been so horrible and completely dismissive. Under nocircumstance should ANYONE consider booking a group event here. They really don't seem to care if people choose to ever comeback. What reason in the world would you have to do that except spite, race -we were a mixed race group or just sheer disrespectfor our party. Great venue! We booked a party room for a class reunion and the management (Sally) was just terrific! They went above and... beyond to help us plan the event to make sure we had a great time. Bar and wait staff and service was amazing! Food wasgreat! Highly recommended! Thanks Hackneys! Read more
