I recently stayed a few nights at Hotel Grinnell and was pleasantly surprised with everything about the place. Awesome facility... with creative touches that show the remnants of the old school, friendly staff, and good food at the restaurant. Would highlyrecommend to anyone passing through or staying in Grinnell ???? Read more

Hotel Grinnell is probably the most clever hotel that I?ve ever been too. Hotel Grinnell used to be a school and they decided to... keep the theme! The floors are genuine hardwood, the decor is all classroom style? even a blackboard in each room! Anotherreview mentioned a musty smell. I noticed the smell as well upon entering, but it did not smell in our room at all. Overall, Ireally enjoyed the hotel! 4 stars for the smell and because the front desk was left unmanned at times. We love Hotel Grinnell because of all the ways they make your stay a special experience. No zombie-like employees. Instead you... encounter engaged employees who seem to genuinely care about you. The hotel itself is super cool, clean and fun. If you feellike staying in, the restaurant has excellent food and drinks. And then there are all the fun games and great patio. We will beback! Hotel has a really cool vibe with style and decor. We were in the penthouse- king size bed and pull out couch, which they... upgraded for our comfort for free. Pull out couch is very uncomfortable but the king bed was great. Shower could have beencleaned better. Staff were welcoming and really helpful, seriously great. Food was just okay. We went at the end of May and thehotel and town were pretty dead. Wall Scrabble in the bar was really fun. Really cute park and splash of across the street sothat was great for our kids. Would have given 5 stars if it wasn?t for the food and the shower/faucets. Read more

Great place to kick your feet up and get comfortable. Renovated from an old school with a school theme. Original wood floors and... high ceilings. Great in house eatery and bar. Great service. An irresistible old world charm with a modern twist! Read more

So first off the hotel is very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the shower was great. However, for what you pay, I expected... it to compare to a top business hotel. When I arrived for check in around 5 PM, there was no one at the front desk, in factthere was never anyone at the front desk the whole time I was there. I had to go to the bar/lounge to check in. The place wasextremely noisy, and it wasn't even that full. Several times in the night I heard very loud bangs and thuds, like someonedropped a bowling ball from 12 ft up. Once I even jumped out of bed it was so loud. Then when I went to check out at 7:30 AMthe next morning, after a pretty sleepless night, again there was no one at the front desk. When I again went to thebar/lounge, the only person there told me they could not check me out, and the front desk staff did not get there until 8 AM. What? Whoever heard of such a thing. We go to Grinnell often as my son is a student there, but I won't be staying here again. Read more

My fiancé and I came to Hotel Grinnell for the first time to stay for our 5 year anniversary, since we would meet up in... Grinnell for dates years ago, being long-distance. I knew the hotel was unique from seeing pictures on the website, but thepictures don't even do it justice! The hotel is so incredibly unique in that it incorporates a wonderful fusion of the oldschoolhouse feel with modern twists! The rooms are spacious, beautiful, and clean; the beds are extremely comfortable, and thelittle touches like the whiteboards and locker room benches remind you of the building's history. Stepping into the hallway, youare again reminded of the building's history, with some of the original flooring of the school intermixed with modern carpeting;you can also imagine where the old lockers used to be against the walls, with the classrooms, now guest rooms, to the otherside. Exploring the building you will find the old gymnasium, now a ballroom, and a beautiful auditorium that looks to still bein use. The Periodic Table, the restaurant on the ground floor, was also delicious and fun, a place to have wonderful tacos anddelicious drinks while playing with their wide selection of games. We did not stay long enough to enjoy all of the amenitiesthey offer, which also included rental bikes, sports equipment in the old gym, and more! This place is truly unique, and, beinghuge history buffs, we were both so enamored with the well preserved nature of the old building intermingled with the moderndecor. Anyone looking to stay in Grinnell should choose this place without a doubt: beyond the awe of the building the staff iskind and extremely helpful, and communication with the guests is flawless. Their internet was also top-notch if you need a goodconnection during your stay. We greatly look forward to coming back and staying longer next time- this place is one of a kind! Read more
