I came looking for an appropriate study space and I must admit, this place can do just that and more. Pricing: Drinks will cost... you similarly at any coffee shop, the drink pictured is their Pumpkin Spice Latte which was just under $5. Yes once can say thisis relatively “pricey” when comparing to a place like Tim Hortons but for the extra $2 you are getting a completelydifferent and vibrant atmosphere. Atmosphere: Think of a dimmed and classy-looking atmosphere with the touch of grainy wood andplants - this is what Democracy is like. As the evening sets the music goes up, candles come out and the lights slowly go out.It really paints the place for a beautiful date spot. Customer Service: This one is an interesting one. It seems that if youhave a laptop at your space the employees tend to visit your table much less compared to if you did not have a laptop or seemedvisibly interactive. Don’t get my wrong, this is not a bad thing! I think it is perfect because if you had come here to studyand do work, it seems as though they understand that and give you that space. In fact they do have specific tables with laptoprules so it is clear they understand that their business does attract the frequent studier (don’t worry, the rules are justsimply restricting laptops for large tables to make room for dinner/lunch guests but there are plenty of small tables). I dorecommend visiting this place but I do not recommend coming here to study during the peak lunch and dinner hours as it does getreasonably busy and thus distracting. Super popular vegan restaurant (gluten free options available) on Locke Street offering sandwiches, bowls as well as brunch... options. Tables can sometimes be hard to come by during a lunch rush but it’s understandable (and worth the wait) becausethis place is so good! The avocado sandwich was super good, as was the burrito bowl. This is a great spot for healthy veganoptions. But, if you’re looking to indulge, the cauliflower wings are what people rave about. They defy expectations, and arelarge chunks of cauliflower available in a multitude of sauces. Definitely worth a try (or two or three). Read more
This place is great, the food and the ambiance. We got ourselves some nachos and burger pizza. All of course are vegan! The... table we sat was an open area where we could eat and smell the fresh air. Definitely will come back next time. Read more
Everyone in the office LOVED it! We ordered from DEMOCRACY on Tuesday for lunch. It was one of the Dentist’s birthdays. She... eats a vegetarian diet with no eggs, so we wanted to be respectful of that when choosing a takeout restaurant. After a quickGOOGLE search, DEMOCRACY came up amongst the top 10 VEGAN restaurants in Hamilton. We had to feed a staff of 8, some of whom areregular meat eaters. Some of the comments heard after lunch were: “I can’t believe all of that food was vegan!”, “Theburger was so delicious - I couldn’t tell it wasn’t meat.”, and “Let’s order from there again next time we have avegetarian lunch.” We ordered 2 pizzas, 3 boxes of cauliflower wings, 4 burgers, fries, supreme fries, sweet potato fries,chilli, and a box of assorted desert squares. With a small tip, we rounded the total up to an even $200, which seemed to be areasonable cost for lunch for 8 people with lots of food leftover. It’s very difficult to please a staff of all women withvarious tastes and opinions, but DEMOCRACY was a true crowd pleaser. We will definitely be ordering again! Read more
First time trying the food here, have tried coffee years ago. Was here August 5. 2021. Ordered the fries and beyond meat burger.... Fries were amazing, loved what ever seasoning was placed on top. Burger was juicy and flavourful but the bun was a little overtoasted. Tried the deep fried cauliflower and they were good and very large. Read more
I'm an omnivore but thought I'd give this place a try as I'd heard good things about it. The cauliflower wings are delicious,... and huge! If you love spicy food like I do, get them with the sriracha lime sauce. (2nd pic shows what's inside a wing). Theplace was a little crowded at lunchtime, but I'm sure off-peak hours it could be a good place to study. Read more
