I very rareley give 5 star reviews. You walk in and the vibe very friendly and historic. We sat at the bar. They have a fresh... raw bar with oysters, clams and shrimp. We came to meet up with someone who was running very late. The bar tender gave us 2different kinds of bread and 2 shrimp on the house. We ordered a Margherita pizza. I have had the best pizza in NY,CT,MA, AZ andRI. When I say that their pizza is better than Sally's and the original Pepe's I know thats a bold statement. I dont go toHartford much but I will be back to take my friends and family here to try the pizza. It had to be fresh basil and crushedtomato sauce. Let me start by saying I have eaten and enjoyed many meals at First and Last over the past 30 years, the food and atmosphere is... terrific. However, last night was so horrible I reluctantly feel compelled to share my experience. I absolutely adore andcherish their chicken stemperata, I love it so much it?s the only main course I order. Last night the dish was uneatable, I meandisgusting, the more I cut into the chicken the more fowl it became. While I?m aware that nothing is perfect and mistakes canhappen, I was most disappointed in the lack response from the waitress and management. The waitress did offer an apology andasked if I wanted something else, to which I replied no? that was the last thing I heard from anyone until the waitress told methey took the charge off the bill. Let me say, I was not looking for free desert, gift card, free jar of sauce or anything, I?mnot looking for attention or friendship. The only thing I wanted was a sincere apology for possibly making me sick, which I wasby being ignored. I?m not a complainer nor do I want to hurt First and Last, my wife and I enjoy going to F&L and I love the CSso much that we will visit again. Ah, an outstanding culinary experience. This is a really nice looking place with a semi-open kitchen where you can watch food... being prepared. However, don't feel that you have to get all dressed up. Shorts appeared to be acceptable. I had a salad hereand some pizza. Both were excellent. Everyone in my party enjoyed their food. If I lived closer, I would be back quickly to trysome more dishes. Read more

Whenever I'm in the Hartford area I always have at least one dinner at First & Last in Hartford! The food is delicious! Our... group enjoyed the calamari, tomato/mozz salad & the meatballs & sausages for apps. Each of us had a different entree - one wasbetter than the next! Fresh clams with pasta was my favorite. The manager and staff are terrific! It was also great to see theytake social distancing very seriously. Masks required until you reach your table and, upon leaving your table to use therestroom, exit the resatuant, etc. Seating inside and out was well placed. Highly recommend! Read more
