Churros are one of those things you can find everywhere in LA. But it?s worth going out of the way to visit and order them from... Azucanela!! I?ve never had churros that were so crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, as I did here. The raspberrydipping sauce tasted and seemed homemade, not bought from a commercial restaurant supplier. Which I would know since it?ssomething I make a lot at home. The strawberry lemonade was freshly made while I was waiting and it was perfection. I loved thevibrant decor inside and outside on the patio! The music was great, I thought the prices were fair. I?ve come here before and the service was always great. Had no complaints. But, today I was super super disappointed. We bought... two coffees mine a 20oz. As u can see in the pictures I stuck my finger in the cup before I drank any of it to see where in theworld was the coffee. I pretty much received half a cup full of foam. The 16oz cup had a little more coffee than the 20oz. Butit was the same almost 3/4 full and the rest foam. Flavor wise it wasn?t as usual either. When I got home I transferred my?20oz? cup to my 14oz Starbucks mug (and yes I included the foam). So not worth $15 for two half filled cups. Doubtful we willbe returning. After a long day of work, My husband and I decided to know this place, we arrived and if the place is nice, but when ordering... the music so loud and the machines we could not hear the cashier, We ordered a coffee from the pot for me Husband and a grannychocolate for me 38 minutes passed and I had to go ask for my order because I couldn't hear when they spoke, they gave me grannychocolate in Frappe and I ordered it hot ????, the coffee in the pot tasted like pure water, and the chocolate too ????????, itwas a bad decision to visit this place, the owner should pay more staff and more attention to the taste of his products. I'm often down in South LA for court (I'm a criminal defense lawyer) looking for coffee places. Azucanela caught my eye, but... it's more of a desert place, so I never got to go...until a late night lax pick up took me down there in the evening. You wouldnever guess something so adorable could be on this particular block which is, at best, nondescript. They have parking in backand a beautiful patio as well, highly recommended if you need to meet someone 15 minutes away from lax at night. Ordered horchata frappe & regular churros. Everything was very good quality & taste. Nice environment & nice place to take pics.... Out in Hawthorne so surrounding area isn't great but there is plenty of street parking available. Worth checking out.(5stars) Update 7/15/21 Ordered churro donut and a latte. The churro was very overcooked to the point it was difficult to chewand crunchy. Usually would let this go but since the donut is nearly $10 I had to revise rating. The latte was overflowing andthe drink was dripping all over. Not sure why this wasn't at least cleaned up before giving to a customer. Unfortunate becausemy last experience was great here. Read more
I?m glad I stumbled upon this place. I was looking for a spot to be able to work on my laptop as well as a little snack. I love... the colors and the space all together. Definitely a gem in my eyes.
