Very nice dining environment, service was amazing!!! We ordered a pot of hot tea, seaweed salad and Ginger Tofu , which was... served on a sizzling hot plate and it came with rice and salad. Both salad and seaweed salad were great. The ginger tofu wassooooooo delicious. It was flavorful and the tofu was perfect and fresh. FYI, Ramen and miso are not vegetarian because of thebroth. Ordered tempura bowl for 19.95. What I got was a big bowl of dried rice with a few pieces of hard, fried veggies and one small... shrimp that had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp. I could not finish it because it was just unappetizing.and chewy. Ipolitely asked the server, who I could tell was a young person, perhaps a high school student, if this was normal. I saw theserver walk over to manager/owner/pic and ask her. The manager/owner/pic, who was sorting silverware, didn’t even look up atthe server and without a word curtly raised her index finger, indicating that only 1 piece of shrimp was normal. It was prettyunprofessional and even I felt bad for our server. Aside from the poor quality of the food, high prices, this simple and briefinteraction I witnessed spoke a lot of this place. Delicious food. The baked Philly sushi roll, aloha sushi roll and chicken stir fry were all amazing. The chicken stir fry came... with miso soup, salad and rice and had plenty of chicken. Tried the sake flight too, and it was absolutely delicious- must try!We ended up buying a bottle for home too. The mochi was surprisingly my least fav. Not the best I have had. Nice, good quality fish. Everything from sushi, sashimi, nigiri is all very good and well prepared. Large drinks– I ordered a... sake and was very surprised that I got a full 6–8oz cup. Much more than I expected. Very nice service. Atmosphere is good,though the restaurant is normally colder than ideal for indoor dining in the winter, so I can never dress as nicely as I mightprefer. I've been here a few times, and although the above items are great, I haven't been impressed with the warm dishes likethe donburi or the katsu. We were a group of ten from out of town for the weekend, and we lucked out on a Sunday night. We called ahead and they were able... to accommodate us with a table in ten minutes! Because the group was so big, we put ourselves in the chef’s hands and orderedthree Combo #3s - and about 12 rolls. Our server was a great curator of the menu and helped us make choices from their specialtymenu so we would get a great variety and not much duplication. Everything was DELICIOUS, fish was beautiful and fresh, and therolls were tasty and not over-sauced. We would absolutely go back next year when we return to Portland. Read more
