This is a great little spot in a very competitive restaurant scene. We got the bread service which is an absolute must!! It is... essentially a giant pretzel with their homemade pimento cheese spread and a sweet and savory butter. The fried cauliflower, which I expected to like more since it is one of their staples but it just didn't do it for me. We got a summer tomato saladwhich was so well executed. The perfect summer time dish. The crab cake was outstanding with a delicious dill sauce. We had abraised short rib special, which just didn't shine as much as other items on the table. We ordered a banana pudding for dessertthat I really liked. Overall this is a great spot and if I could give them 4.5 stars I would. For me to do a 5 star revieweverything needs to be over the top outstanding it this wasn't quite there but the price is right, the service was great, and Iwill be returning for a date night with my husband in the future. Amazing food and the menu changes every 6weeks to have a different type of experience. Definitely go with a a few people so you... can explore more of the menu. Appetizers and desserts are a must! Our waitress Faith was so personable and lovely. You can tellshe's very passionate about working there and explains the menu and the flavors perfectly. Kevin the owner is amazing as well! Read more

Came here for a birthday date. We wanted something not so crowded, more intimate and this place was perfect! The food was... amazing, we really enjoyed the octopus & the fried cauliflower. The bread service was so unexpectedly delicious, I mean bread isgreat but this bread with the different butters and cheese was so flavorful! Sadly we didn't get dessert because they were aboutto close & we felt bad asking for some so late but the coffee and donuts were really tasty according to our table neighbors.Next time, we'll make sure we try it! I need to preface this by saying that I rarely leave reviews for anything - ever. I don’t get to come to Roost often, but... lately I’ve been coming about once per menu change. I’ve celebrated my birthday here twice and I always tell people thatit’s one of my favorite spots in the city. That being said, I had an incredibly disappointing experience at Roost lastnight. I was celebrating my friends birthday and we both had two glasses of wine, ordered two appetizers, and for dinner sheordered scallops and I got the duck breast. Her scallops were great, my duck was chewy and practically cold by the time it gotto the table. Per the picture, the duck was sliced into three pieces and there were three potatoes. I ate ONE of the pieces ofduck and half of that I gave to my friend to make sure that I wasn’t being too critical or imagining things. I texted a friendthat owns a few restaurants & is an exec chef himself for a second opinion and he said that the little bit of pinkness was agood sign, but of course, duck can not be lukewarm. I told my waitress, she asked what I wanted to do, I asked if it could becomped, and after talking to the owner she told me that they’ll be mindful of the temperature, but because I ate half of theplate that that wasn’t possible. But I could get a free dessert! A picture of my plate at the table and the picture I sent myfriend are below. Like I said, I ate one of the slices and 1 1/2 of the potatoes. Saying that I ate half is laughable when theportion was so tiny to begin with. I wasn’t trying to get a free meal, everything else was amazing, but the duck just wasn’tgood. I’m really disappointed that neither the chef or owner decided to speak with me and how this situation was handled. Read more

Truly amazing!! Great wine selection. We went for a date night and got the chef’s tasting for a 3 course meal! Amazing fried... cauliflower and polenta fritters. For entrees, the steak was decadent and the chicken n dumplings dish was the best I’ve had!Currently waiting for dessert but already had to give this place 5 stars. Will definitely be back for the rotating menu!! Read more

I had heard many positive and enthusiastic reviews about Roost. Unfortunately, our experience was less than expected. We came... for the Houston Restaurant Weeks menu of three courses. The first course was pretty good (cauliflower was tasty and well cooked;the polenta and sauce were nicely done). The second course was less stellar (chicken and dumplings was too salty and the chickenwas very dry; the crusted gulf fish lacked depth of flavor and the combination of hot fish on top of a lukewarm beet/orangesalad was not a good pairing). The last course was nice, we both ordered the mango sorbet with assorted small fruits of lycheeand berries was refreshing. Overall, the dinner was just ok. I'd say the food was underwhelming. The ambience was intimate andnice lighting. For being indoors, it did become a little too warm and the humidity inside at times felt a bit stifling. The waitstaff was incredibly courteous, attentive, and very much appreciated. Read more

My partner and I came here to celebrate a birthday. The atmosphere is cozy and the service was pretty okay. We tried several... dishes: fried cauliflower, pickled vegetables, oysters Rockefeller, Brussels sprouts, shrimp and grits, duck two ways, anddonuts and coffee. The shrimp and grits, Brussels sprouts, and oysters were phenomenal, and everything else was good too.Although this restaurant isn’t at the top of my list, I do plan to return! Read more
