Everything I had during the brunch was awesome. I do not like onions and every dish that had them (salads and Agua Chile) I... happened to enjoy then. One of the staff explained that they wash them very well and this removes the bitterness. My serverbrought out a Lamb Flauta, compliments of the chef, and it was amazing (crispy, not dry, and full of flavor). This was such anice gesture and greatly appreciated. The Crème brûlée was my favorite dessert. The churros were very bread-like and dens, not like fried dough. I tried Agua Chile for the 1st time and loved it. They had cold smoked fish and it was the best proteinthat day. Read more

Chili in restaurants is usually tame, but the flavors here really pop. Possibly my favorite Caesar salad in Houston; briefly... grilled & served w/ a poblano dressing. Pork Shank is fried w/ a tender interior. Short Rib Fajitas had good flavor & texture. Read more

"Texan-style comfort food" is a very appropriate description, yet how well it is executed goes beyond just comfort. Making it... feel like an understatement. For a Texan (like myself), it takes you home to a romantizes childhood of good times your withfamily. It hits hard with a kind of "magical cure" for that homesickness you didn't realize was there. Bringing my girlfriend(per usual), and we had more than our fill on food and a couple of cocktails- -The Pepper Jam with farmers cheese brought backmemories of family reunions as we dig deep it this sweet and rich starter, that swung the doors wide open for what we had instore -the Chili is the best I've had at a restaurant. With a big gulp of pride i now have to swallow in order to say mygirlfriend likes this more than my chili. Beefy, flavorful, low heat, and NO BEANS (you can't get more traditional than that);and I can't be upset this chili snatched my girl away, it's a damn good Bowl o' Red. It's a cowboy's heaven in everyspoonful. -The Woodgrilled Chicken, is juice and tender with a king ranch cassarole that is just on a different level. Took meback to my dad on his pit, and reminded me of his mother's casserole. Only there seems to be more refinement here. -The WagyuChicken Fried Steak, is just the best chicken fried steak I've ever had, period. I know it just chicken fried steak, but trustme it's a damn good Chicken Fried Steak!!! As a kid, chicken fried steak like Christmas July. Somthing about this steak madethat magic comeback, better than I remember. -As far a drink my love was over the moon with Mutton Busters! For myself, theGerman Town is a lovely Manhattan with a beautiful essence of raspberry that got my Bourbon mix; and the Tommy Marg should be astandard example of what (not good margarita but) a great margarita should be. Overall this place brought out the younger me tofind the feeling of my childhood home turned luxury. We ate more than our fill, took a banana pudding home and gla Read more

Lovely evening with good friends at Wild Oats. Our waiter, Kevin, did a great job keeping us informed with good recommendations... and everything moving along very nicely...first rate service. There were five of us and we over ordered. Steak Tartare wasvery good, cauliflower, fried pickles w/pimento dip, and the pepper jelly...all tasty. Tartare was my fave. The chicken friendwagyu...yes may I have another! Hard to come by a good CFS but this one is likely the best in town. The crispy pork shank isabsolutely OTT. Quail very moist and someone mentioned the chicken was also quite good. We had four desserts and the standoutswere the banana pudding and the cobbler. Sheet cake also good...comes straight from oven...it's a lot so good if you have kids,etc... Overall, highly recommend. Will go back. Read more

A visit to one of Chris Shepherd's restaurants never fails to impress. We've been longtime fans of Underbelly and Underbelly... Preserve and were quite sad when UB Preserve closed its doors weeks prior to our anniversary... But, fortune smiled upon us withthe opening of Wild Oats yesterday and we were lucky enough to snag reservations for tonight to once again celebrate ouranniversary in one of Chris' places. Decor is minimal but tasteful and well put together, and the location in the Farmer'sMarket is unique and fun. Parking was plentiful, unlike UB and UB Preserve, but our reservations were for 6 p.m. so earliertimes might be a little more difficult if the market is being heavily trafficked. Service, if a bit slow (2nd day ofoperations, so no points deducted) was as friendly and accommodating as anyone would desire. Manuel took care of us this eveningand offered great suggestions for each course. The starters we tried were the beef tartar served with fried saltines and thearmadillo eggs (stuffed jalapenos wrapped in ground sausage and bacon, smoked and deep fried). The tartar was lighter thanexpected and quite tasty. Cliantro added a touch of brightness and the salty crunch of the crackers provided a texture that wasa perfect counterpoint to the beef. It was a very well executed dish. The armadillo eggs, while quite similar to other disheswe've had elsewhere, were pulled off amazingly well. We had no doubt they would be delicious after hearing Manuel'srecommendation (we were planning on ordering the queso and switched due to his description of the dish) but we were quitesurprised with the first bite. Just a touch of heat was present and the saltiness we expected from the sausage and the baconjust wasn't there the way we expected it to be, which allowed the flavor of the meats to shine through what we expected to be aheavy dish. In reality they were light and the crisp, fresh jalapeno in the center was able to lend additional flavor instead ofjust h Read more

The food is amazing. There are few things I hate more than a chicken fried steak that is just sad pieces of breading that have... separated from the meat. This is not a problem here. The juicy meat is nicely adhered to the thin coating of flavorful breadingwith a nice amount of gravy. It comes with mashed potatoes and green beans. The chili (no beans) has shredded beef and groundchuck roast, yum! My only regret: I was too full for dessert. Cadillac margs are ? and servers were attentive and friendly will!I will definitely return to have the CFS again or try the shrimp and grits with abuelita's tres leches. Bonus points for playingSelena and rancheras. Nice touch???? Read more
