This restaurant serves my favorite meal, the onion encrusted grouper - pan fried to perfection. We have been customers for over... ten years and hope to be back soon. The seven layer chocolate cake is spectacular. Read more

This was our first time eating at this restaurant in a few years and we are glad we did. The selection of German cuisine was... very good. My dining companion had the pecan honey chicken. There was enough honey to give it flavor but not so much tooverwhelm the flavor of the chicken. The dish was accompanied with German fried potatoes and also cooked perfectly. I tastedthis dish and will probably order it next time we are here. I ordered the glazed salmon with carrots and boiled potatoes. Itwas also very good. The potatoes were fully cooked and easy to cut as were the carrots. There was not a lot of seasoning on thevegetables which was perfect for my taste as I enjoy the flavor of the vegetables. I added butter to the potato—my usualhabit—and was very happy with the result. The desserts are up front and looked delectable. The chocolate cake looked perfectbut we opted for the carrot cake. I never had carrot cake when I lived in Germany. If it was available and I passed it up, itwas a mistake. It was a large piece and, as we were both full after a large lunch, we took it home and enjoyed the cake later inthe day. Service was very good. Our server had a few tables but worked hard, and was very efficient and friendly. She took theorders and were delivered exactly as ordered. The decor is traditional German with a Bavarian flavor. The store has been atthis location since 1989 and in business in Huntsville since 1972. The decor has not been changed in a while and looks somewhatdated but reflects images of Germany which is appropriate for the cuisine that is served. There are limited wines available bythe glass and a more varied selection available by the bottle. Ol Heidelberg is well worth a visit when in Huntsville. Read more

I've eaten here twice. I had the honey pecan gluten free chicken schnitzel, not sure if that's the name but it was really... great. I tried both the slaw and potato salad, both have a little too much vinegar for my preference but are really good. I alsohad some kind of sausages that were great as well. The staff ate kind and the deserts are good too. There's a gluten freechocolate torte available. So great! Read more

Good food. Reuben was nice, wish the sour kraut had a bit more flavor. The fried potatoes were amazing with bits of bacon... woven in. Nice German beers on tap was a big plus! Read more

I went here while on a trip to North Alabama and was looking for a unique place to eat. I am not German but have eaten in German... restaurants before so your taste may vary. My experience here was mostly positive. We were given menus and one was a lunch menuand mine was the dinner menu. Since I had not been here before I was unaware and had chosen a meal from the dinner menu. Thewaiter told me that item was from the dinner menu. That is all that he said and i had to ask if the menu should be taken awayand replaced with the proper one. I was told no. It was a really weird interaction about a simple thing. I chose somethingdifferent and after a few minutes the waiter came back to say if I still wanted my first choice from the dinner menu he wouldmake it happen. I thanked him for doing his best to correct the confusion. After a little while the food came. It looked reallygood and was a nice portion. I ordered the Assortment Platter from the dinner menu. This consisted of a mini Weiner schnitzel, mini chicken cordon Bleu and a Rauchwurst sausage with a choice of salad and side. It was a lot of really good food. My wifeordered Bratwurst Jarlsberg sausage platter with a choice of sides. The decor and staff uniforms appear to be dated and coulduse a refresh. Overall the food was great and the waiter was fine after the menu incident. I would definitely go back for thefood and would hope to save some room for dessert the next time. Read more

Another difficult review. This is the second time in six years that I've eaten at Ol' Heidelberg. The first time the Hunter... gravy tasted like it came out of a can. This time I went because i had family visiting and she wanted to go. Let's say it didnot start off any better. The good: The Schnitzel Cordon Bleu (Veal) and the Jeagerschnitzel (Pork) were well prepared, andthe hunter gravy actually had a good flavor. The fried potatoes were also very well prepared. The bad: I initially had theSpatzle with my meal and it came out dry, overcooked, and greasy. So, why four stars? It could have been better. We also hadan issue with our server, but the manager quickly remedied it and the replacement server (Dawn) was absolutely wonderful. Read more

My wife and I stopped in late for a dessert after dinner at another restaurant (lost coin toss but I still got to go in the... end). I had the 6 Layer Carrot Cake and my wife got the Turtle Cheesecake. The cheesecake was middle of the road to me althoughthe carrot cake was fantastic and moist through every bite. Portion size was excellent and better than expected. The server wasa very nice lady with a warm smile (did not get her name unfortunately). I have been here many many times over the years andhave yet to be disappointed. Read more
