Via Ghibellina is an awesome hidden gem and was a perfect addition to an Italian themed evening in DC for my husband and I. We... were in the area tasting Italian liqueurs at Don Ciccio and Figli and were ready for dinner. We walked around the block anddecided to stop in here. The restaurant is rather unassuming from outside, but as soon as we walked in we were warmly greetedand shown to our table. Everyone we interacted with on the staff was very kind. One gentlemen by the name of Rodrigo, Ibelieve, asked what our general preferences were for Italian food and then gave great recommendations. I noticed he wasattentive to all the tables in this manner, which was really great to see. It should be noted this is a small to average sizedestablishment and was moderately busy while we were there. We ordered caprese to start accompanied by Chianti and then twohomemade pasta dishes (beef with noodles and lamb with noodles) for our entrees. They also gave us homemade bread that was aperfect compliment to the caprese. Everything was very fresh and delicious. What may seem like rather simple dishes weredistinctly flavorful and well put together. We ordered tiramisu for dessert and while I would have like the lady fingers alittle more soaked in espresso, it was still really good. I would definitely come back and you should give this place a chancethe next time you are in the neighborhood. Thanks! :-) Read more

Had an amazing dinner here at Via Ghibellina! Super lovely restaurant in Ivy City near Planet Fitness and Mom’s. This is some... of the best and most authentic Italian we’ve had yet in the city. We got the arancini appetizer and they gave a DELICIOUSflatbread with it as well. I got the house Chardonnay, which was good, though a little more light than I wanted. For meals, wegot the pappardelle con ragú di agnello (braised lamb, green olives, tomato, grana padano and mint) and pici alla carretiera(garlic, olive oil, light spicy tomato sauce, pepperoncino, basil). Both were amazing, though I think both us agree thepappardelle took the crown for the night. The pici was wonderful, but maybe slightly too spicy. Be cautious if you’re not biginto spice on that dish! Aside from the food, the service was incredible. Everyone was kind and genuine. One of the staff thereactually saw that our table was a little wobbly upon sitting, and immediately asked to fix it for us. We will gladly bereturning and highly recommending! Read more

Sorry to say that my experience here was disappointing. I had read good things about this place and we were there at a busy time... on a Saturday evening which may have contributed to the problems, but I do think they should be able to handle the pressure of abusy weekend evening. We shared the Fritto Misto as an appetizer and it was well prepared, delicately fried, came out promptlywith a tasty red sauce. I had the Cacio a Pepe pasta as my main course. The dish came out cold and the sauce was kind of wateryand the proportions were off. We also ordered the asparagus as a side dish and it never came. My husband had to the mushroomrisotto which used ordinary button mushrooms and it was underwhelming. In fairness, the hostess gave us two complementaryglasses of wine as an apology for the poor service and she also brought out the asparagus and didn’t charge us although wewere almost finished with our meal by then. At least she made a sincere effort to try to set things right. Other than that, itis a pleasant room and appears to be quite popular. Hopefully they will get the service issues straightened out. Run, don't walk, to Via Ghibellina! Everything is amazing but the Fritto Misto appetizer is a must! As a full-blooded... Italian-American from Rhode Island, a state full of authentic Italian restaurants, I struggled for awhile to find authenticItalian restaurants in the DMV. After Napoli Pasta bar so sadly closed, I found Via Ghibellina! The atmosphere, food, quality, management and staff are all immaculate! Read more
