Phenomenal little restaurant and pub in Iowa City. The atmosphere here is great and the food is excellent! Highly recommend... trying the ginger beer they offer as it is terrific alternative if you are not wanting to drink or if you just like ginger!Overall I was very pleased with this place! Read more
I've always loved the atmosphere but the pizza is inconsistent. The "Tuscany" today was entirely edible even over a cracker... crust. I would love this in square pizza "Flatbread" form like many places have claimed. Anyway, Sanctuary could do better witha flatbread and small plate menu, if it were up to me. It's not. Rock on!!! Decent pizza, decent, prices, limited seating, limited staff. Good variety of thin crust pizzas, and large drink menu. Bathrooms... could use a good cleaning and updating. No place to park other than 3 blocks away at a parking ramp. Probably won't go backagain but happy I at least tried the place. See photos of pizzas we ordered. Got a giftcard here 4 weeks ago. Went in to use it today and apparently the ownership changed 2 weeks ago and they will not... accept a gift card that is literally 4 weeks old. Literally paid for nothing. I will not be returning and suggest anyone wholiked this place before not to either as they changed their entire menu. Most ridiculous experience I have ever had with arestaurant. In addition the old quality food we used to expect from this place is gone, replaced with cheap bread and jacked upprices. Cozy and intimate bar. This place is high on the list of Iowa City locals. It's easy to feel welcome here, food is great,... ambience is great and the menu is a great reflection of what this restaurant embodies, simplicity. Only down side, they don'tsaute the jalapenos for the pizza. Minor gripe. Read more
The food was delicious, but a bar that has no music or tv sound or anything is a bit strange-especially when not busy.
