A KalamazooGem. Cannot recommend highly enough. Coney Island checks all of my boxes. I only wish that they were open 24/7.... Except that would mean that something had changed. And part of why this is one of my happy places is that nothing has changed inthe decades I've been going here. (Well, they used to have a great jukebox.) The food hasn't changed, it tastes exactly asmarvelous as it did when I was a kid. The menu is almost exactly the same. They haven't added gluten-free buns or tofu dogs,everything is spotless but the booths and the chairs and the trays and the lighting and even the doorway are just as they alwayswere.. I always order the same thing including a Sprecher root beer in the bottle with a frosted mug. And there's nothinghokey about it. Just simple, delicious, food, authentically friendly, fast service. The consistency of everything is highlyunusual in my experience. Even the places that I love occasionally have an off day or night where the service is not that great,or they mix up an order or your favorite dish has too much or too little of something. The clientele is varied but the vibe isalways wonderful and low-key. It is small, so if you're there at a busy time you may have trouble getting a table or a booth.But people don't tend to linger so things turn over pretty quickly. It's child friendly. You can get orders to go. (I once goton an Amtrak with two Coney dogs and when I unwrapped them people were literally coming over to me and asking me where I got myfood.) Read more
Not a good place for children as the owner has a foul mouth. The open sign was displayed at 9:10 when we came in a bit ago. We... were blunting informed that they were closed. On my way out I turned the sign around so no one else would have the pleasure andwas called a profanity for it. Stuck my head back in to get the store number and employee names and the "owner" turned it intoan altercation. He used quite a bit of profanity, came outside aggressively as if wanting to fight, but invited me backtomorrow. Seriously? Read more
You may be thinking how can I give a hot dog joint 4 stars, I'm asking the same thing myself, but this place had it all. First,... the help was personable. Second, watching the dude make a Coney dog was like watching an artist. Weird I know, but true. Third,the help worked together as a team. Their efforts were coordinated. Forth, the food tasted good. Granted, it's not fancy food,it's just comfort food. And as someone else posted, if you want a chili dog it's not served there, but if you want a Coney dogthis is the place to go. Read more
Coney Island is a long-standing staple in the Kalamazoo community. They have this location & another shop downtown next to The... Green Top. Both have the same great food & service. It?s a family owned business that sources high quality products and offersvery reasonable prices. Read more

I purchased the coney dogs and chili cheese fries from here. The prices were outrageous was the first thing I noticed. $3 just... to change our cheese from the plastic-y nacho cheese to a shredded. We thought that although we paid a lot more than expected,maybe the portions or taste would make up for it? No... unfortunately not. If you were expecting big box of chili fries orlarger than average dogs to fit the price, you will be thoroughly disappointed. the box of fries was smaller than my hand andthe dogs were extremely average. The taste was the biggest disappointment of all. It is what prompted me to write this review.The chili wasn't chili at all, just hamburger meat. Dry, loose, unseasoned hamburger meat. I'm 7 months pregnant and I've been craving a Chicago hotdog for all 7 months...I have tried Chicago dogs from a couple other... places but I finally satisfied that craving today at Coney. The only thing it was missing was a poppyseed bun. Great prices andservice! Read more
