We made a reservation for 6:45 and were confirmed. We got there on time but there was no hostess at the door so we waited.... About 10 minutes later another party came in for 4 with just 2 of them there, the hostess showed up and sat them first. Not ahuge deal, perhaps they were still getting a table ready for our party of 2 but it would of been nice to know that instead ofbeing ignored ???? Got to the table and it's a nice ambiance for a romantic night out but the bread was just plain white breadthat you can get anywhere and didn't taste fresh at all, no special spread for the bread- just butter. Then the salad wasalright, nothing amazing. The red sauce with the meatball appetizer was especially sweet, but edible. The main courses werevery bland for both of us- the alfredo tasted like it came from a jar and the chicken I added to my fettuccine was a very oddtexture (so soft and flakey which is not how I expect chicken to taste at all, more like tuna texture without the tunaflavor). For the price we spent, I was expecting a lot more impressive, flavorful food. I would not come back here again. ???? Read more
I'm surprised at how disgusting everything was. My husband and I ordered crab cakes, garlic cheese bread, chicken spiedini... julian, and the chicken parm. Everything was bland and something tasted off about everything besides the lacking of flavor. Thecheese was all melted into a plastic sheet on the bread and parm. The alfredo sauce used for the julian tasted like warm, thickheavy whipping cream and nothing else. They gave us an entire loaf of bread as if to apologize for how bad everything was. Thechicken from the julian was ok, but I scraped the sauce off because I just could not stomach it. I could not go beyond 2 bitesof the crab cake, and I only went for the 2nd bite because I was shocked at how off putting it was. I know we arent on the coastbut come on. I ate what I could. Dinned at Carmen’s for our anniversary dinner and I must say it was a GREAT experience. We had a reservation and were able to... be seated early. Ray, our server, was very friendly and attentive throughout the entire meal. He recommended the Pistachio torteand it was AMAZING!! Visited this establishment for the first time. Our party was seated relatively quick for the size of our group. The waiter... (Sean) was very attentive making many passes by our group to check on our status and make sure we had everything we needed. Thetiming of our order from salad to entree was very good. Carmen's Cafe likes garlic however done tastefully, just keep a mint onhand post meal. Service was excellent but would have really enjoyed garlic bread of some type with my meal. Atmosphere was awesome. Service was as good as it gets. However the food was mediocre. I didn't even take pics because of the... disappointing presentation. I ordered the eggplant Parmesan and it was tasty but underwhelming. It appeared rushed and cheaplymade. Overall we did have a nice evening and I would recommend this place for a cozy drink or two at the bar. Read more
Surprised I've not reviewed Carmen's sooner, my family goes here often for celebrations. Carmen's does a great job of putting up... with all of us! Their food as been some of our fave Italian in KC for a couple of decades. It's not the most ideal place to eatin a pandemic, and definitely not recommended if you have accessibility issues. Service this time around was great as usual. Wewent on a Sunday evening and enjoyed 50% off bottled wine under $50. The bread service is excellent and should not be passed up.I pretty much always get chicken parmesan. My niece had lobster ravioli and it was sincerely amazing. Parking is streetparking. Everyone was respecting masking guidelines due to the pandemic right now. Read more
Service was very slow to get started, considering we sat at the bar, but once she got to us, she was excellent. Food was... excellent from start to finish! I had the "Italian butter" for the bread service, lasagna (with a surprisingly delicious andgood sized side salad) and tiramisu. Read more
