Never. Never. Never. Not only did I find a bread clip in my sandwich, I swallowed a piece of the bread clip and when I called... to advise about me swallowing the bread clip, they offered to replace the sandwich! What?! No apology, no sense of asking ifI?m okay, but a replacement sandwich! It?s clear that this establishment has health code violations (in which I will bereporting to the Kansas City Health Dept.), but also the lack of cleanliness as there are meat and plastic products thattouch. I love Gates BBQ and I'm biased when it comes to their food, so this is more a review about the catering service we received. We... had our wedding on August 10th and Gates catered. It might have been one of the first times they had to plan and think about howit would all go down during the COVID pandemic. They did a terrific job of figuring out how to plate everything and get itserved to our guests in the safest way possible! They were fast and everyone got fed smoothly. I called the store on State Avenue and received a quote for catering($5XX), but was told I needed to come in to place the order.... When I went to the store I was told "The manager did not want to talk right now come back tomorrow." And like a fool I did butwas able to finally place my order. When the day came to pick up the food the bill was almost double($9XX) what we had receivedvia the phone quote. Stuck between a rock and a hard place we protested but ultimately paid the bill as we had employees waitingon food. After contacting Gates Corporate office to file a complaint I was told I would receive a call back in 24-48 hours. Aweek and a half later with no call back I called to check on my complaint. I was then told "That it was explained to me and itis what it is." I have no problem paying for food and service, but a bait-and-switch tactic of doing business is not one I canstand behind, and I will not support it. Mediocre BBQ at reasonable prices. Staff is relatively friendly. Really depends on what kind of BBQ you enjoy, everyone has... their favorite here in KC, this is one of many places people really love. Not my favorite but I know people who say you can'tget better. Read more

Today we had the pleasure of having lunch at the Independence location. We have really missed them after the fire last year, our... neighborhood has not smelled the same since the fire shut them down. So happy to have them open and filling our area with thatwonderful hickory smoke again. Today we were blessed with another opportunity to enjoy a double decker combo, fries and beans,of course we were greeted with the usual, MY I HELP YOU? Beef and ham were lean and perfectly smoked, all around delicious...allwe can say is, THANKS George and staff, WELCOME BACK!!!! Read more

I grew up on Gates. I love Gates BBQ however, tonight the customer service was horrible and unacceptable. Gave half my order and... the order taker completely ignored me, moved on to the other customers. I stated I wasn't finished but she totally ignored meagain. Terrible attitude. Not right! Now I'm on my way to get some Mexican Food! Read more

This place is awesome. Had other bbq now it compares to gates. The hot flavored sauce wow it's good enough to put on cardboard... but best on bqq. The short ribs were excellent with the right amount of Smokey flavor and texture. Read more

After today I will never eat at Gates. I ordered ,and my food was not even made. The two people behind me got thier orders and... I was left standing there. The little boy in the back was not doing his job and was to busy talking and joking around tocomplete my order. I had to yell back there to him and let him know what I had ordered. Im am very upset and will not be goingback. Do your job correct the first time because you just lost a customer !!!! Read more
