Awesome food, the sun stix are particularly tasty. Overall they manage to make good pub food without it being greasy or overly... heavy. The atmosphere is about what you would expect for a bar, and can be quite loud while the lunch rush is in or the drinkingcrowd shows up in the evening. Ray's Place is an institution in Kent and probably my favorite college bar of all time. A lot has changed in Kent within the... last 10 years with many more restaurant options. But Ray's still stands at the top with it's friendly staff, large drink listand consistently good food. A must go if visiting from out of town or a routine stopping place if local. Read more
Excellent food and service! The putine plate was enormous. Burger was excellent. Drinks were cold and right. Great little piece... of history. They still use the original cash registers to the bar. All in all a great experience for all. Read more
Stopped in for a late lunch after moving our daughter in to her dorm at Kent State University. I got the Ray's Reuben, and it... was fantastic. Probably one of the best I've ever had. My wife got the Blue Moon (smoked pastrami) which was also amazing. Theysmoke their own meats, and they do it quite well. They also have beef brisket, ribs, bbq pulled pork. Highly recommend. Came here on a Friday night and we had to wait for a table. No worries... It was a glorious evening. We were seated and a... succession of servers took our drink order. If you've never been here, the draft beer list is expansive & it's cold when itarrives. Ordered a burger and fries and a chicken gyro. As we waited they had the AC blasting. Usually I run hot - really hot -but even I was cold. After an hour of waiting I flagged down what I supposed was our primary server (they seem to do it bycommittee) and she said they were plating it as we spoke... 15 more minutes and it finally arrived. The food was underwhelmingand they forgot my fries. When those came out, though, they were HOT and delicious. I've been to Ray's when it's been muchbetter. The beer was excellent and we didn't lack for refills. The rest of the evening was forgettable including the service.However, I think this was the exception and not the rule. I'll try them again. N. O. R. A. Is pretty cool. Rays particularly was great. Good atmosphere and great food. The smoked wings are killer!
There were 5 of us at 6 pm on a Wednesday. We got sat immediately. Jovial atmosphere. Four people had burgers and one had the... meatloaf dinner. You have to order fires separately. They are $4.50 a basket. Not sure this would work for a single person. Iordered the Gourmet Burger and was looking forward to the caramelized onions. Must have been an off day as those onions werejust burnt. The other burgers were good. Our server was really good. She checked back several times to see if we neededanything. Read more
