The Colonial Inn is warm and special. The owners and staff make you feel welcome and cared for. Mara is a wonderful hostess! We... had a grilled salmon with garlic potatoes and asparagus. Deliciously paired with an oaky Chardonnay And a superb filet miñonwith baked potato, and carrots aldente? paired with a heavy Cabernet Sauvignon. For dessert we indulged in the chocolate cake.Mmm superb! After Dinner Mike Davis gave us a tour and told us about some of the exquisite artifacts that line the walls. What apleasant surprise. Thank you Mike and Mara! After such a pleasant experience we strolled along the historic walkway Read more

The Old Colonial Inn is a very nice little restaurant, and my wife and I had a great time. The restaurant is located inside of... an old hotel, and if you like historical settings, then you'll love the vintage feel of this place. The hotel rooms don't seemto be used for anything anymore, although it seems like it would make a great B&B. They have a small but tasty menu of dishes, and the prices might be a tad high, but not terrible. The size of the portions could be a little bigger, especially the salads, which seemed unusually small for some reason. The quality of the food, however, was first rate. The restaurant itself wasnicely decorated, and there are several rooms available. This gives it a feeling of being nicely intimate, without ever feelingcrowded, since they can spread guests out into other rooms as needed. The bar room is nice and the staff werefriendly. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant. However, at these prices, mostly I would go for special occasions, likedates or anniversaries. If I was just hungry and wanted a good meal, I would probably go to the excellent family restaurant justdown the street. Read more

Great upscale restaurant in downtown Kentland. The staff are very welcoming and attentive. The food was excellent and the... cocktails, many of which are house specialties, are generously poured. Ask the owner, Mike, for a wine pairing recommendation,he is always happy to help. Read more

What an amazing place! Beautiful, well-restored old hotel, full of neat historical photos. But the best part is the food! Our... dinners were cooked to perfection, and presented with impeccable, friendly service in a wonderful setting. So many terrificchoices on the menu, it's hard to pick one. You won't find a better meal in Chicago! And did I mention the reasonableprices?? And the neat bar scene? I'm not sure how it took us so long to find this classic gem, but we'll be back again andoften! Make Kentland your next dinner destination. You won't regret it. Read more

Very cool place for dinner. The staff seems very friendly and intuitive. I wish there was a little better appetizer menu. ... Best thing on it is the shrimp. The mushroom are deep fried and for a nice place such as this I think a better option can takeit's place. Bacon wrapped dates maybe. Or even some sort of sauteed mushroom. Big portobello maybe? The steaks were greatand so were the sides. Very simple. Wine list was also very nice. Definitely will return. Read more
