I received the pasta bolognese from a family member and was pretty underwhelmed by the portion size. The dish was mediocre in... flavor( sauce mainly). My recommendation would be not to order something like this from a mainly German restaurant. But notbeing a fan of German food, I tried something else on their menu. No disrespect in any way by the opinion. I just thoughtspaghetti and a simple sauce would come with a decent portion size for the price. I'll try something else next time, if there isa next time. We planned on stopping here after a long, busy day of shopping around La Crosse. Our server was kind, attentive, and fantastic!... The food was delicious and the hazlenut raspberry cupcake was incredible. It was the perfect atmosphere for what we were lookingfor. We will come back a lot more! Read more
We've been looking for a good German restaurant since our vacation to Austria. It's been a five year search, and we're grateful... to have found BFB. We were driving from Wisconsin to MN, and needed a place for lunch that was near the highway. Out server was the sweetest! We... were served promptly and our drinks came out super fast. I’m a vegetarian so I got the grilled chicken salad (minus thechicken), and when it was brought out it had extra avocado on it (without my asking), since I didn’t get chicken, which was sonice!!!! The food was delicious! We each got a dumpling (both yummy), and the spätzle (sp?). All the food was delicious andthe service was wonderful! Got a raspberry cupcake to go and it is quite delectable. Excellent food! I had the beef goulash with spaztle. I grew up eating Hungarian goulash and even though this was slightly... different, it was very tasty. The pieces of beef were extremely tender. The spaztle was fluffy and pan friend slightly. Myhusband had the German style cheese burger and he enjoyed it as well. We will be returning for sure! I can't wait to otherthings on the menu to remind me of my childhood favorite comfort foods. Read more
Wow wow wow, would give more than 5 stars if I could! Amazing German food, fast service. We had goulash with potato dumpling... and red cabbage and sauerbraten. All so flavorful and complex yet approachable. Can't wait to come back and sample more itemson this menu! Read more
We've been meaning to come in forever. Finally stopped and so glad I did! The service was great. I had the tomato bisque... soup...so much flavor.. the sourdough was phenomenal. I ordered the bruschetta panini & the flavor was outstanding. My daughterhad the spaghetti alfredo and the sauce was just superb.. definitely tasted the homemade flavor in everything. we willdefinitely come back as the menu has so many other things I want to try! I don’t write reviews, but this definitely deserves one from me. I’ve been coming here for a few months now, and have tried... a few different plates. This has easily become my favorite restaurant in town though. I’ve lived in Germany and a few otherplaces around the world and this food is easily 5 star restarting quality even around Europe. The food itself is so flavorfuland tender and all matches so good together with each plate. The photo I’ve linked is probably the best thing on their menu(even though they don’t have it all the time) schweinshox’n. This right here has a deliciously crispy outside that is searedto perfection, allowing the juices and flavors of the meat to marinate inside as it cooks. When biting down on it, the flavorfulcrunch of the skin gives way to a beautifully cooked, and juicy interior that literally falls off of the bone with every bite.Paired with some fresh made pasta and drizzled with gravy made from the juices of the meat itself makes this dish alonesomething to come back to again and again. Now as much as I praise this plate alone, the rest of the menu is top tier qualitythat is definitely something to write home about and keep you coming back for more. Friendly staff and a comfortable atmospherepaired with very appropriate prices make Black Forest Bistro my new favorite place in La Crosse to eat. Read more
