Staff was very nice, but I was disappointed in the food. Maybe the non-fusion food is better.... the fusion food was not great.... Got a lava cake at the end but it was not melty at all. Read more

Worst dining experience I've ever had. Bad service from uncoordinated staff and overpriced bland food. This place only survives... on shows next door. Skip the pain and grab food literally anywhere else before a show. Read more

I don't normally leave reviews but we had such a poor experience. Went for a show at the playhouse and got dinner beforehand. We... weren't in a rush, but after taking our initial drink and appetizer order our waiter completely forgot about us. We ate ourappetizer, finished our drinks and water, and waited for over 20 minutes before having to call them over to place our dinner anddrink refill requests. The food and water refill came, our drinks never did. The waiter never checked on us despite walking byus constantly even looking at us and our table. We called them over after another 20-25 minutes of seeing if they remembered us,and asked about our drinks, we were told the bar lost the ticket and the drinks would be right out. We finished our meals andsat there with empty plates and water cups, our drinks never showed, despite us seeing them at the bar (we were tempted to justgo up and grab them). No one stopped by to pick up our plates, refill our waters, or even ask how we were doing. We finally gotthe attention of the waiter and asked for the check. We felt completely invisible. The food was fine but expensive for what itwas and paired with the poor service unacceptablely expensive. Read more

So we tried out this James’ Place last night. It’s a restaurant right next to the La Jolla Playhouse, and apparently people... go there for dinner right before the shows. It’s supposed to be a higher end place, and the ambience was pleasant enough, butthe food was AWFUL. Their salmon was over cooked and dry and tough, and their wagyu burger was dry and cooked like it was almostwell done even though I asked for medium. Servers were nice but they didn’t refill waters either. So a hard pass! Also, theparking situation is a bit confusing for first-timers since it’s at the UCSD campus. You apparently have to park at the SouthParking Structure down the road, and then take a shuttle up to get to the restaurant. Read more

First time visit. Enjoyed outside seating and dinner was fabulous. Convenient dinner before enjoying la Jolla playhouse... entertainment. Note: parking is down the hill in a parking garage. There is a shuttle that ferries you up the hill forconvenience. Read more

It was fun to go to James even though the service was limited. We ordered at the counter and then they brought the food over but... we could order other things through the servers. Staff is always very welcoming and very engaging. Food was good and consistent.Prices were very reasonable for quality of the food. The menu is still limited however. Read more

Really delicious food, properly cooked, nicely seasoned, lovely sauces, correct portions. Also, sushi... Good room ambience. ... Simple furniture adequately sized and spaced so even crowded it's not loud. Very accommodating friendly wait staff. Take acompass for the bathroom location, the sign really says EXIT, but only leads through the back of the theater next door. Read more

The sushi was very good. The place was crowded pre-theater, so although Valerie was a good server, I waited a while before I was... acknowledged. I would definitely return, but I would plan and advise theater goers to make reservations and go 1 and a halfhours before curtain. The setting is lovely and the menu is varied. In addition to salads, seafood, pastas there is a nicesushi selection, but no sake???!!! Reasonable pricing, great service should definitely encourage you to visit this spot. Read more
