Early evening, bellied up to the bar and had a relaxing, delicious dinner. My server, Bryanna, was exceptionally knowledgeable... of what Umami had to offer, and hats off to her recommendations. Started with the sashimi tacos and followed with a nice, largeselection of sashimi in the chirashi bowl. The sushi chef (Jason?) was also superb. The toro is not to be missed. The place was pretty easy to get into. We showed up around 5 on a Saturday and picked our seat after hostess asked a preference.... Polite entrance and prompt service. Place on the outside looked a little rough with grass about 8-10" tall in the curbs and somebranches piled up in the grass. Inside was a little rough in terms of aesthetics since pieces of ceiling were messed up fromwhat I assume was storm damage from 2 years ago. Picked a booth to sit in and was told they needed to wipe quick. No problemsince it was our decision. Was advised it would be wet since freshly wiped, no problem. Table dried and was sticky. I assume therag that was grabbed off a nearby table had been used to clean something and hadn't had a chance to be rung out. No worries, alil water cup condensation on a napkin cleaned it up. Waiter came out and took our drink orders. Not as enthusiastic as i thinkhe could/should be, but wasnt rude or anything. Just a thing I caught onto from someone that has worked in food/customer serviceindustry for about 13 years before. Orders a Japanese Mojito and a Red Dragon. Both were made well and we were very happy withthem. Took a lil longer than anticipated to come out, but nothing worth complaining about, just note worthy. Appetizer of thepan seared gyoza came out in a timely fashion. Very well done and the sauce on the cabbage on the side was surprisingly goodconsidering a simple garnish. Very happy with it. Ordered the shrimp hibachi and came out timely and was good as well. Orderedthree sushi rolls consisting of the Jurassic Roll, Super Tiger Eye, and Spicy Lady. All were very good with them tasting cleanand made well. Only minor complaint was the rolls weren't rolled as well and had a tendency of falling apart as you grabbedthem. Held together, but all 3 almost fell apart as you grabbed and dunked them in soy sauce. One actually did collapse after asmall dunk. But still happy with the rolls! Good place overall. I planned this visit this time because my 1st visit it was so busy, I ordered my sushi To-Go. This time I was in a private room... with excitement service. The room was so Japanese. The sits were lowered so the table felt so cute. The sushi was fresh but, thechefs were very slow. I ordered too many sushi rolls. Read more

Friendly knowledgeable waitresses. Pleasant environment. Sushi rolls were excellent, and the menu has a nice variety to choose... from. Sweet tea was better than most. I will be making trips to Lake charles just to eat here again. Read more

Wow. Sushi was great! And the beef teriyaki was awesome too. Waitress never missed a beat on keeping our drinks full and... checking on us. Bathrooms very clean which always speaks volumes to me. Might be one of my new favorites! Read more
