Horses is a solid choice for Euro inspired Californian food in a fun and trendy atmosphere. The menu is fairly large and easy... to find something for anyone's preferences. For the most part our choices were very good but not amazing. Every dish sampled hadsome aspect that was great (e.g. the avocado for the crostino, the garbanzo beans for the trout, the dressing for the Caesar)but didnt leave a lasting impression overall. The standout of the evening was definitely the steal tartare. The cocktail menuand wine choices (by bottle or glass) are definitely a compelling reason to visit. They have a number of atypical options suchas chartreuse cocktails and white burgundy wine. The atmosphere is pretty unique. The dark panelled interior retains thecharacter of it's original tenant but it's modernized with pops of color and 80s music. It's definitely a lively place. Staffwas very attentive and able to provide recommendations. Reservations are required, it gets pretty busy. Valet parkingavailable. Read more

This restaurant deserves the highest recommendation anyone can give. If you don't have reservations you probably won't get a... table, it is very busy. Every dish I tried here was prepared expertly with the greatest attention to detail. The big standoutbeing, and I can't believe I'm going to say this, the Caesar Salad. Made with endives, a homemade dressing, and a sprinkle ofbread crumbs, it was phenomenal from the first bite to the last. They are also building outdoor seating on their back patioaround a beautiful new tree brought in as a gorgeous center piece. This is an absolute must eat place if you find yourself inLos Angeles, but you better have that reservation. Read more

Horses is a very trendy, and very "LA" restaurant and experience. I thoroughly enjoyed it for this! Everything from the chill... wait staff to the hidden elegance in the older building, 70s-funk feel in decoration, furniture, lighting, and atmosphere - itall contributes to the true value in coming here, which is an experience more than "just" a meal. The food more or less standsup to the promise of the experience, which is to say it can be very, very good, and it's never bad. An overall opinion from thismeal is that it was very salty. Apart from that, the Cornish game hen was tender and juicy and very well seasoned. The burgerreminded me of Ron's winning burger from Parks and Rec - it's a slab of (excellent) meat on a bun, with a thick slice of onion. And lots of salt. It is an excellent hamburger. Highlights of the meal include: butter stamped with a horse's head molding. Thecheesecake is probably the best cheesecake I've had in LA; light and just the right amount of sweet with a hint of tart. TheCaesar is rightly among the most popular dishes on the entire menu. Besides the saltiness issue, we got perhaps the worst tablein the restaurant, sandwiched in a corner with two larger groups on each side, and right underneath the AC - with no coat, I wascold. If they take you to the back room, watch out for this one and request a different table! But this was a relatively minorinconvenience for the otherwise described great experience eating at Horses. Simple, elegant, lively, delicious. We signed up for waiting list when visiting LA for Easter vacation, and got a table a couple... of days later. Simple and simply delicious food, really charming premises, and great service. Lively music, but good acousticsin the house enables good conversations. The burrata salad is probably the best I have had ever. Delicious bread and butter (agood restaurant test, if you ask me). The grilled sole had perfect texture and was full of flavors. The French chardonnaypairing could have had more power for such full flavors. The butcher's steak was equally fantastic, super-tasty and as tender asis possible for this part of the animal. The Cali Cab red (VENN) matched perfectly. The burger (for the kid) was excellent, aswas the cheesecake with rhubarb. Highly recommended. No intricate stuff, just pure and great flavors from quality produce andskilled people in the kitchen. Read more
