The food is decent, but terrible customer service! I stayed at the Luskin for 5 days and ate at Plateia three times. Every... single time, hosts and waitresses were invariably surly and curt. It's a "gratuity-free environment" so they probably didn'tthink that they have to make any effort since they won't get any tips. The icing on the cake was the last night of my stay: Iasked my waitress if I could have a sandwich to go for the next day, since I was leaving at 5 am and everything would be closedfor breakfast. These are the replies I got: 1. my waitress said that they had no bread for sandwiches, no ham, and that shedidn't think they could do it. She said that she would speak to the host, but then disappeared and when she showed up with thecheque, she didn't mention anything. 2. I then spoke to the host. She said that they don't have any ham, took my room number, and explained that she would ask the chef "if he could do it." 3. the restaurant manager then reached me in my room, explainingthat they indeed they offer an avocado sandwich, but unfortunately they only offer it in the morning, and I could not get it atnight. I am sure the chef was consulted. For a sandwich that didn't happen, I had to talk to practically a committee and it wasstill a no. So my questions are: 1. which chef can't make a sandwich? 2. they served me a soup with a generous slice of bread. What did they mean by not having any bread? 3. since they must have had all the ingredients ready for the next morning, would ithave been too much to make me the same avocado sandwich to go the night before for the next day? There are many goodrestaurants in Los Angeles; I see no reason to patronize Plateia any more. They are ridiculously bureaucratic, surly, and can'tbe bothered to even make a minimal effort. Read more

Best place to come to eat. Whenever you get a chance to take a vacation or you're in town stop by Plateia. I had my doubts since... it's in a university, but it's spectacular. It's extremely diverse and amazing staff. The food is to die for. Read more

Nice ambiance, especially the patio seating by the olive trees. It's lovely in the morning and in the evening. The past 2 times... I've had dinner here, I thought the hamburger was too salty. It covered up the flavor of the grass-fed beef. Could it be lesssalty perhaps? Thank you for choosing grass-fed and please ensure it is ethically pasture-raised. I had a breakfast omelettehere as well and it was outstanding. The ingredients were fresh and balanced. The toast was buttery delicious, and the potatoeswere decent. I'm also impressed that you pay your staff a livable wage and don't make them survive on tips. Please provide themgood healthcare & benefits as well. The staff have always been friendly and kind...nice people are hard to find and you shouldkeep them! Read more

While visiting colleges in SoCal with my daughter, we made the Luskin our home base for a week. We ate at the Plateia for... breakfast and dinner everyday while we were there. Originally, this wasn't our plan as we hoped to explore the variousrestaurants around Westwood. But the food was so outstanding and the staff so friendly and helpful, that we just decided to eatthere everyday. Did I mention the staff? Wow, they were so incredibly friendly that my daughter was almost in tears on our lastday. A special shoutout to Maria S. A very special lady with a bigger than life smile and down to earth attitude. Othersincluding Ariel, Betty and Adrienne were also wonderful. It's true that the staff is not allowed to accept tips, but that in noway prevents them from providing outstanding service. Favorite entrees included The Burger (which I ate everyday while there),their various pizzas, Reggiano fries, gelatos and their yummy tiramisu. I (we) highly recommend this wonderful gem if you arelooking for great meal with a wonderful atmosphere and a terrific staff. Read more

The food, what tiny bit you receive, is tasty, albeit they get almost every order wrong. There is no tipping so service is... terrible; there is absolutely NO incentive for staff to seat you, hustle, remember that you've asked for coffee 4 times ...they'll tell you they're full in the middle of the day when there are 4 people in the restaurant "we don't have enoughstaff" The bar closes @ 9:30, their drinks are expensive, and mostly ice .. The atmosphere is excellent; beautiful garden tosit in and there's no other food around so when you're at the hotel .. your stuck. Update: they served me pink eggs, almost nofilling to the omelette, they ran out of salt!! Read more

I would say this is the BEST dining place during pandemic. They really have thought through about how to keep customers and... their staff safe. For example, one person is deligated to serve only and the other picks up used items so things don't crosscontaminate. Their protocols to serve food and water, and the thoughtful ways to pay bill and order food made me feel reallysafe. Highly recommend!!! Kids friendly. Call ahead to make reservation. Read more
