Food was great, service was okay. Then we got the check, 18% is added to the check "to facilitate a higher living wage for all... our employees." Apparently, that's separate from the tip. I own a business and I take pride in paying my employees a verycompetitive wage. I am not sure why this establishment thinks it's okay to pay their employees less than a fair living wage andexpect their customers to make up for the difference. Mind you if you do the math, the wage seems exorbitant: it took us half anhour to dine, 18% of 115 bill is almost $20 — so they're asking their customers to pay a $40/hour wage for their employees. Iwonder what kind of hourly wage they actually pay their employees. Then, of course, you have to add the tip, in my case 15% forfor the barely satisfactory service. I guess that answered the first question that came to mind; great food, but why is therestaurant empty? Won't come back and won't recommend. Read more

Really enjoyed the fish and chips. They were very good. Pricing could be better but that would be my only issue. Nice location... and decor. Read more

Food was delicious, great and interesting seafood. What would have been 5* was ruined by what seemed like the staff trying to... shut the restaurant down for the night as soon as possible. While we were still eating our mains we were asked if we wanteddesert, then promptly handed the bill. The bill already included a 18% “service” charge.. so we thought appropriate to add10% to this. On adding 10% our server proceeded to show our bill to a guest sitting at the bar, and spent 10 minutes speakingabout the issue with the 18% system with him. Meanwhile, the music was shut off at 9.45pm on a Friday night while people werestill eating… not a way to make guests feel comfortable! Read more

Michelin recommended, Son of a Gun offers a refined taste if you’re looking for that, or an equally basic one if you’re more... into fried chicken and fries. We had fish stuffed with Guac, trout and a smoked fish dip. All delicious and very unique. Read more

Mini lobster roll, smoked mahi dip, and kennebec fries rounded out a seaworthy lunch. Very fun decor and extremely kind and... professional staff. The lobster roll was petite but packed with flavour and lobster. The toasted bun was buttery anddelicious. The smoked mahi dip is a must have. I had to pace myself so I didn’t devour it immediately. Came to Son of a Gun last February so here's my shortened, delayed review We sat outside and they had dividers between tables... and our waiter promptly greeted us. We ordered the lobster roll, kennebec fries, chicken sandwich, trout almandine, Italianburger, and the key lime dessert. Keep in mind- this was only for two people. What can I say, we were hungry! I also orderedthe orange wine and felt awful because as soon as I tasted it I absolutely hated it. Our gracious server actually laughedbecause I felt so terrible about hating it and changed it for something else without a second thought. As far as the food- thelobster roll was delicious but pretty tiny. Fries were good and crisp. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. The trout wasunfortunately SO darn salty that we didn't make it through the dish. The Italian burger and key lime dessert were a pretty goodending. Overall pretty decent experience, enjoy! Read more
